Position: Utility Worker

Overview:
The Utility Worker at Progressive Protein is responsible for supporting the overall operations of the rendering plant by maintaining equipment, handling materials, and ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient working environment. This role involves working with industrial machinery and assisting in the rendering process of converting animal byproducts into useful materials such as fats, oils, and proteins.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Plant Maintenance:
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of plant machinery and equipment, including grinders, conveyors, boilers, and dryers.
- Ensure production areas remain clean and free from debris, spills, and hazards by conducting regular sanitation tasks.
- Assist in equipment setup and adjustment as required by plant operations.
- Equipment Operation and Monitoring:
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot various machines and systems involved in the rendering process.
- Report any mechanical or operational issues to supervisors and assist in basic repairs when necessary.
- Assist with starting, stopping, and maintaining equipment to ensure efficient plant operations.
- Material Handling:
- Transport raw materials (animal byproducts, waste) to and from designated areas within the plant.
- Load and unload trucks with raw and finished materials.
- Monitor and control material flow to ensure consistent processing.
- Waste Management and Disposal:
- Handle and dispose of waste generated from the rendering process in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Operate waste disposal systems to ensure the proper treatment and removal of byproducts.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
- Follow all health and safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Comply with environmental regulations regarding waste management and material processing.
- Actively participate in plant safety programs and report any potential hazards or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Team Support:
- Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations.
- Assist in other tasks or special projects as directed by management.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or rendering plant setting is preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in a hot, noisy, and sometimes odorous environment.
- Skills: Basic mechanical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions.
- Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of safety procedures, with a focus on maintaining a safe working environment.
- Teamwork: Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to industrial machinery, high temperatures, and strong odors.
- Regular handling of animal byproducts and waste materials.
- Shifts may include weekends, and overtime based on production demands.
