The Training Specialist is responsible for the development, delivery and coordination of training to all child welfare, school personnel, community professionals and families as it relates to prevention, safety and well-being of children and families.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and deliver training regarding trauma, secondary trauma, exposure to violence, child and family welfare, behavioral health and other areas as needed to child welfare professionals, school personnel and other professionals and community members who work with children and families.
  • Coordinate training utilizing external trainers for internal personnel, Project Harmony partners and the community, including but not limited to clinical and evidence-based practices.
  • Develop relationships with key members in the Project Harmony service area and serve as a liaison for training and training department initiatives.
  • Write and maintain/update training curricula.
  • Promote training to professional groups in the areas that Project Harmony serves.
  • Evaluate training needs based on research and professional and community response to determine areas where additional training, as well as improvement in training curricula, is necessary.
  • Create and maintain training handouts.
  • Assist in developing child abuse policies for schools, churches and other agencies.
  • Ensure culturally competent trainings are provided without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
  • Assist in managing training data collection.
  • Answer phone, email and web-based inquiries about training.
  • Monitor training registrations.
  • Initiate conversation about training cost for training requests.
  • Customer service duties to include greeting guests, preparing signage, providing refreshments, etc.
  • Assist with tours and presentations in the facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, education or other related field, with equivalent relevant experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrate strong presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of instructional design related to adult learning.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills (written, verbal and active listening).
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child welfare.
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma, trauma informed care and secondary trauma.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and use of presentation software, including PowerPoint, Prezi, Articulate, etc.
  • Demonstrate instructional technology skills.
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Access.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of previous professional experience related to teaching, training and/or
  • Previous experience working with schools, child welfare and/or families preferred.

Other

  • Must demonstrate professional demeanor and attire as a representative of Project Harmony.
  • Must demonstrate daily a respect for Project Harmony staff, our partners and the community.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Must be willing to travel regionally (Western Nebraska, Iowa) and nationally, as needed.
  • Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check.
  • Must have access to a vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Intermittent sitting, standing and walking will be required.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of assorted materials from 25 to 75 lbs. will be required.
  • On-site attendance is required of this position.
