Job Summary / Overview :
Oversee the roof construction processes of the solar installation to ensure timely and quality work is being achieved and assist the Electrical Lead as needed.
This job includes driving to and from our warehouse and job sites. Solar electrical knowledge, bending conduit knowledge, and being comfortable on a roof are required.
Must know roof safety, how to tie off, and how to use a harness and ladder straps.
Core / Primary Job Responsibilities :
- Installation of electrical systems that interconnect the solar array to the grid power of our customer’s residential property
- Installing PV systems from beginning to end Work with crew members to complete projects within the company’s policy and procedure.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions and operational issues.
- Troubleshooting system problems and helping resolve electrical issues
- Layout and assemble solar modules, mechanical and structural mounts, electrical equipment, and tools in preparation for installation
- Trenching, concrete work, and equipment assembly
- Project clean up including client site and installation vehicle
- Ensure attention to detail with an emphasis on safety, quality, customer service, and productivity
- Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA standards related to photovoltaic installations and enforce safety practices and standards
- Develop a positive working dynamic within the installation crew and branch co-workers
- Lead production team members with an intense focus on safety and quality while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as internal company policies
- Develop work instructions and cross-training plans
- Provide on-the-job training and lead by example
- Drive continuous improvement of plant key performance indicators (Safety, Quality, Customer Service, Cost)
- Utilize lean methodologies and tools in order to accomplish production goals
- All team members are responsible for supporting an inclusive work environment
- 100% travel is required
- Assemble solar modules, panels, or support structures
- Measure, cut, and assemble structural framing and solar modules
- Communicate with customers in a professional, considerate, and respectful manner, answering all questions and concerns to the best of your ability
- Review inventory at the loading dock to ensure the assigned crew truck is stocked adequately
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structure, building, or support mechanisms
- Assemble and lay the racking, solar modules, panels, or support structures as specified in the project plan
- Ensure a clean and orderly job site
- Perform project clean up including client site and installation vehicle
- Ensure personal, crew, and job site safety at all times
- Participate in mandatory training sessions on new products, installation methodology and safety
- Lead crew through safe, effective, and efficient installations
- Provide leadership, technical expertise, and support to fellow crew members
- Perform additional duties as assigned and / or directed.
Requirements
Requirements, Education, Skills, Qualifications, and Experience :
- Must be expert and certified in Generac, EnPhase, and LG Chem / SolarEdge battery systems
- The ability to work calmly and efficiently
- Willingness to learn
- Great customer service
- Must have a clean driver's license and background check
- Must have a High School diploma or a GED
- Must be willing to work in unfavorable weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, windy)
- Solar Installation : 3 to 4 years
- Lifting heavy objects and no fear of heights Ability to safely handle tools and equipment
- Roof / Electrical Installation : 2 years (Required)
- Driver's License (Required) and clean driving record.
- Works independently, as a team player, and drives results in a fast-paced, team-based environment
- Willingness to learn
- Great customer service
- Must be able to pass a background, credit check, and drug screen
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Essential physical requirements included climbing, standing, stooping, bending, squatting, stretch.
- Physical effort / lifting up to 10 pounds; light - up to 20 pounds; medium - up to 50 pounds; heavy - over 50 pounds.
- Lifting heavy objects and no fear of heights Ability to safely handle tools and equipment
- Ability to work in all weather and climates
- Ability to work in confined spaces, such as attics
- Must be able to work with heights; ascends / descends a ladder to rooftops.
- While working conditions can vary depending on the specific position, this job will require you to be outdoors for extended periods of time.
Solar installation and maintenance can only be done when the weather is good, expect long hours during these times in order to get as much work done as possible.
Keep in mind that you may be required to work at heights necessary to get the work done and that you can meet the physical demand of working on a rooftop.
Additionally, solar technicians will sometimes need to work in attics or crawl into tight spaces as they will need to hook up the solar panels to the electric grid.
- Weekends and OT may be required
- Workdays and start times are subject to change depending on weather & additional requirements
