Manager, Environmental Services (EVS) - Full Time, Days (Los Angeles)

The Manager of Environmental Services (EVS) is responsible to maintain the hospital and office buildings in a safe, clean, sanitary, orderly and attractive manner, free from offensive odors. To ensure housekeeping personnel perform daily cleaning of occupied patient areas, nursing stations, work area, halls, lounges, storage areas, laboratory, bathrooms, offices, and any other areas assigned, in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department, and in accordance with the facility’s objectives.
Job Responsibilities/Duties
- Oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the department, such as ensuring that trash and infectious waste is picked up in all assigned areas; ensures that soiled linen is stripped from the patient bed and placed in proper containers, ensure that check out cleaning procedure is completed appropriately, and ensure that glass disposal is placed in white 5-gallon labeled buckets and that they are covered securely. Provides and maintains structure and leads regular meetings with staff and provides timely updates to leadership, including hospital administrators. Implements operational objectives, goals, and specific strategies required to support and achieve the strategic outcomes (capital equipment/replacement/maintenance) of the department. Demonstrates advanced level of expertise and collaboration when dealing with leadership and staff.
- Ensures the hospital and EVS staff maintains compliance with federal, state, city, local regulatory agencies and organizations such as the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), Center for Medicare and Medical Services (CMS), The Joint Commission (TJC), Department of Public Health and Human Services (CDPH), Fire Departments, and City Ordinances. Consults with each site to ensure compliance. Performs Routine EOC Rounding on a timely and structured basis and ensures that the facilities team remains up to date on items involving regulation and compliance.
- Ensures appropriate staffing levels. Provides effective oversight and guidance of staff, including audits of activities and documentation. Responsible for scheduling/staffing, coaching, training, hiring, firing, counseling, performance evaluations and competencies, and payroll process. Effectively manages staff in compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, and all established policies, procedures, and legal guidelines.
- Appropriately interacts with, educates and mentors, remains available to staff, and demonstrates a “hands-on” and/or collaborative management approach. Leads/participates in company initiatives, such as employee engagement, to support a team-oriented culture. Acts as a coach and positive role model for staff by establishing and maintaining a safe work environment that fosters positive morale.
Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Minimum Experience: Seven (7) years of housekeeping experience with at least two (2) years previous supervisory experience required. Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Knowledge of fire life safety systems, hazardous materials and utility management. Advance knowledge of regulatory CMS and TJC requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
