We are looking for a Security Officer for the Security Department at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.
Location: Orange, CA
Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours
Shift: 8-hour, Days
Job Summary:
Directly responsible for maintaining a proficient operation while in the Security Communication Center, logging and passing on all vital information; dispatching other Security Officers / Associate Security Officers as needed; monitoring the CCTV monitors; responding to alarm monitoring systems, accessing and securing alarms when properly notified and documenting. Patrols the facilities and grounds to ensure the safety of personnel, visitors and patients. Investigate losses, vandalism, assaults, improper conduct, etc. Coordinate with law enforcement agencies, parking and traffic control, report unusual conditions. When scheduled, will perform the duties of a Lead Security Officer. In addition, assists in training activities for the facility. Ensures that critical response procedures are executed as prescribed (i.e., fire drills, critical response exercise, etc.). Audits reports, shift schedules, activity logs, battery inventory. Performs post checks, collects post orders at the end of shift.
Essential Functions:
- Performs duties as outlined in Security Officer (625BE) job description.
- Coordinates activities within the Security Communication Center(s), which includes answering all incoming calls, monitoring, troubleshooting and processing alarms when necessary.
- Provides clear, concise, accurate, complete and legible documentation of all shift dispatch activities (Radio/telephone log, key logs, vehicle registration, Rideshare registration, name/access badges, etc.).
- Responds to critical incident situations appropriately, according to department protocol which may include Code 77 and all hospital emergency codes alarms by taking the appropriate action(s), as outlined in the Communication Manual, as assigned.
- Responsible for the tracking of all equipment, radios, keys, paperwork, etc. Ensures all items are present and accounted for at the beginning and end of each shift. If anything is missing, notify the shift supervisor immediately.
- Conducts security briefings to security staff prior to going on patrol, passing on necessary information, and inspecting subordinate’s appearance and equipment before going out into the field. Follows the Shift Briefing Outline.
- Appropriately prioritizes and promptly responds to all emergency situations, immediately takes initiative to control the situation as it applies to safety and/or security functions, in a manner appropriate with established policies.
- Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, visitors and staff in a professional manner.
- Maintains positive working relationships and fosters a cooperative work environment. Demonstrates and sustains compliance with Standards of Conduct policy.

Minimum Position Requirements:
Experience: 1 year Security or dispatch experience
Licenses/Certifications: California BSIS license / guard card.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Education: Coursework/Training - Penal Code 832 (Arrest and Firearms) Training
Experience:
- 1 year Dispatcher experience
- 1 year Hospital Security Officer experience
Licenses/Certifications: IAHSS Certification in Healthcare Security and Safety, or equivalent.
