What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coder - General Surgery position at Providence Swedish?

Description

The Coding Specialist is responsible for the collection of data from patient medical records. The Coding Specialist performs ICD-10 diagnosis, CPT procedural, and HCPCS coding by reviewing medical record documentation and determining the appropriate codes based on currently accepted coding and abstracting guidelines for billing and data collection.

Required qualifications:

  • 1 year Medical billing experience.
  • Experience in presentations, both written and verbal.

  • upon hire: National Certified Coding Specialist - American Health Information Management Association Or

  • upon hire: National Certified Health Data Analyst - American Health Information Management Association Or
  • upon hire: National Registered Health Information Administrator - American Health Information Management Association Or
  • upon hire: National Registered Health Information Technician - American Health Information Management Association

Preferred qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training: 2 years of community college/business school training.
  • Coursework/Training: Additional course work in business or health care related subjects.
  • 2 years Medical billing experience.
  • Experience with electronic medical record.

About the Team

Providence Physician Enterprise (PE) is a service line within Providence serving patients across seven states with quality, compassionate, coordinated care.
