Providence is calling a GI Endoscopy Technician II (Full-time/Day shift) to Providence Saint Johns Medical Foundation in Santa Monica, CA.
We are seeking a GI Endoscopy Technician II who will prepare GI/Endoscopy suite for procedures. Functions as an integral member of the GI/Endoscopy team during procedures. Responsible for providing appropriate instrumentation and supplies to the physician and for assisting in the handling of the scope. Participates in the daily activities of the department as an active team member. Demonstrates proficiency in delivering pre and post procedure care to assigned age-specific patient population.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organizational performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control policies.
- Assist physicians and GI Registered Nurses during procedures limited to the technologist scope of practice.
- Prepare the GI/Endoscopy suite for cases by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of case.
- Assist in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges. Report incorrect counts immediately.
- Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
- Reprocess and maintain scopes and equipment according to standards of infection control, policies / procedures, and manufacturer’s instructions.
- Assist in cleaning and preparing rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning.
- Monitor and restock supplies.
- Provide comfort and support for pre-procedure patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient’s care and privacy.
- Identify and care for specimens.
- Provide and maintain a healthy and safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with regulatory agency requirements and standards set forth by professional organizations and institutional policies.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support department areas as directed by procedural and/or charge nurse.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Participate in unit/hospital quality improvement activities.
- Leadership: Demonstrate effective leadership for staff on assigned shift.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
- BLS for Healthcare providers sponsored by the American Heart Association.
- SGNA Advance Associates Program Certificate
- 2 years of related GI/Endoscopy experience
- Knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the GI and respiratory tracts
- Must be able to assist with GI/Endoscopy procedures
- Able to apply infection control principles
- Demonstrated skill in reprocessing standards of endoscope and accessory equipment
- Application of patient safety in all areas of endoscopy
- Effective communication and ability to effectively work in a team
