Providence is calling a Phlebotomist III (1.0 FTE/40 hours per week, Day Shift) to work in the Phlebotomy Department at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.

The Phlebotomist III will be responsible for reception and telephone duties & proficient operation laboratory equipment including HIS/LIS systems; specimen handling: receiving and processing; prep & shipping of lab specimens for at Reference Laboratories; specimen/patient registration; phlebotomy - collection of blood samples by venipuncture or capillary stick; therapeutic blood collection; swab collection of specific Micro samples (per competency); assignment to OP Lab locations; training new staff as assigned; respectful and patient communications (written and verbal) with patients, clients, other lab staff, and caregivers from other departments.
In this position you will:
- Perform reception and telephone duties.
- Ability to handle and process multiple specimen drops (i.e.) Courier Drops, Health Care Professional Drops, Tube Station Specimen Drops.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the unit’s testing procedures, systems and databases as necessary to the position.
- Perform EKG test procedures (where offered) and phlebotomy tasks, collects venous blood specimens from patient age groups, as certified.
- Perform office/clerical tasks such as filing, copying, and typing.
- Clean and maintains equipment and keeps the laboratory area clean and orderly.
- Perform QA/QC activities related to tasks.
- Maintain competency appropriate to assigned sections.
- Maintain currency with hospital-mandated continuing education, & competency evaluations.
- Assess data/tools relative to age of patient.
- Identify role and responsibility in complying with facility and unit specific safety and security policies, plans and procedures.
- Comply with facility and unit specific infection control, risk management and OSHA guidelines and procedures.
- Provide orientation and training for new employees, as directed.
- Provide sensitivity with cultural and religious beliefs.
- Adhere to facility and department confidentiality policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
- Completion of an approved phlebotomy or Medical Assistant training program meeting requirements to become licensed as a MA-P or MA-C in Washington State.
- Three (3) years experience in a clinical lab setting.
- Experience 7 of the basic skills described in the essential functions of the job description.
- Experience in laboratory billing process (CPT coding at minimum).
- Experience and/or education in lean workflow processing.
- Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist Certification (MA-P) or (MA-C).
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Eligibility for Lead duties.
