Job Summary
Position manages and oversees a team of MAST Claims Associates engaged in processing, investigating, evaluating liability, adjusting damages and where warranted, resolving third party liability personal and property damage litigated and non-litigated claims. Position, and reporting staff, work in conjunction with Company and/or outside counsel to assure valid legal processes with regard to tariffs, civil law, and regulatory statutes.
Job Responsibilities
- Position has primary oversight for setting proper reserves ($$), and for routine reporting of reserve accounting to Operating Company senior management as well as to select financial analysts who use the information for budgeting as well as for preparation of Company financial statements (10-K, 10-Q)
- Position proactively pursues prevention and correction activities aimed at mitigating losses, identifying offenders and ‘cost-causers,’ and providing statistical information useful to internal customers
- Oversees preparation of formal reports on major incidents and investigations for consumption by internal and external stakeholders, e.g., Litigation/Trial Counsel, Insurance Company representatives, Regulatory Agencies and Operating Company VPs. Analysis as required on major incidents and for reporting purposes to insurance carriers
- Continually evaluate all processes, identify best practices, engage in benchmarking and make process and policy improvements in order to achieve continuous improvement
- Assures 24x7 responses to emergencies as well as responds to and directs associated investigations of major third party liability claim events, such as electric contacts, fires, explosions, or events involving law enforcement or other emergency response agencies
Job Specific Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of experience conducting investigations of personal injury/property damage claims or similar type of investigations and directing the activities of a team of investigators
- Without a bachelor’s degree, must have a minimum of 10 years of experience conducting investigations of personal injury/property damage claims or similar type of investigations and directing the activities of a team of investigators
- Superb negotiation skills coupled with the ability to make high dollar value decisions in sometimes time-sensitive or ambiguous environments
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Electric utility infrastructure and its potential to cause risk or exposure
- Demonstrated knowledge of law, legal process, and rules of evidence
