What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Clerk position at Purdue University?
We are currently seeking a full-time, on-site Account Clerk in our Bursar and Student Finance office. This position answers student questions via phone, email, and in person, takes payments in person and performs vital functions for the university. The pay for this position is $15.44/hr.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collection of payments and deposits from other university departments, students, and parents.
- Provide excellent customer service to students in person, via email, and via telephone regarding questions about fees, charges and other account related concerns.
- Perform research and account analysis in order to answer questions from students regarding accounts.
- Post charges and other data entry to student accounts.
- Verify, receipt, and track student and departmental deposits.
- Prepare requests for cash orders from various departments on campus.
- Prepare cashier checkouts, audit transactions, resolve discrepancies, and make necessary corrections.
- Approve students’ eligibility for payment plans and hold options on student accounts.
- Communicate with students with past due accounts.
- Review, prepare, or request adjustments to student’s account when necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- 2 years of customer service experience with experience in cashiering, cash handling/collection, and reconciliation.
- Basic computer skills including spreadsheets, and data entry experience.
- Able to independently problem solve and address concerns or inquiries professionally.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Occasional weekend and extended hours may be required for special events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous call center and accounts receivable experience.
- Work experience with web-based applications.
- Experience with Excel.
