Role Description

As a Paralegal at QDROCounsel, you will play a critical role in supporting our QDRO Experts in the preparation and review of QDROs. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with our legal team to assist in case management, document preparation, and client communication.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist QDRO Experts: Work closely with QDRO experts to assist in the preparation, drafting, and review of QDROs and related pension division documents.
  • Document Preparation and Review: Draft and format legal documents, forms, and correspondence accurately and in compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Case Management: Maintain case files, track deadlines, and manage case calendars to ensure timely completion of QDROs.
  • Client Communication: Serve as a point of contact for clients, answering inquiries, gathering necessary information, and providing updates on the progress of their cases.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research as necessary, including reviewing pension plan rules and regulations, state domestic relations laws, and related statutes.
  • Coordination with Pension Plans: Communicate with retirement plan administrators and other involved parties to ensure the proper procedures and documentation are followed for QDRO approval.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with administrative duties such as scheduling meetings, organizing digital files, and updating case management systems.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Review documents for compliance with legal standards and internal guidelines; assist in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all filings.


Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred; Paralegal certificate from an accredited program is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, preferably in family law, employee benefits, or a related field.
  • Skills:
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with case management software.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on QDROs or other pension-related legal matters.
  • Familiarity with retirement plan structures, including defined benefit and defined contribution plans.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations such as ERISA, as well as state domestic relations laws.
  • Experience in legal technology environments or working with legal software tools.
