SUMMARY
The Senior Database Administrator I (Sr DBA I) will be responsible for the monitoring, maintenance, and operational support of our entire portfolio of databases and SQL instances. This role will maintain the reliability, stability and data integrity of all organization databases in addition to coordinating all database activities and leading and securing Microsoft SQL Server instances and databases.
Additional responsibilities include supporting back-up, maintenance, restore, documentation, process development, testing, tuning, continued improvement, optimization, software upgrades, and administration of all Microsoft SQL Server instances while maintaining a focus on availability and performance of all databases and underlying operating systems.
Furthermore, this position needs to be able to guide the colleagues in database security, performance, and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server BI products. The position may also draw on skills and experience gained from working on cloud-based database solutions, supporting databases and data movement either on-premises in the global data centers and cloud-based solutions located in Microsoft Azure cloud.
Finally, the Sr DBA must be capable of working independently and collaboratively with team members to support the global infrastructure and other IT teams. This includes solving complex problems and independently identifying areas for improvement and implementing these changes following best practices. You will need a strategic mindset, strong collaboration skills, and experience in CI/CD for databases using Microsoft Azure DevOps.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor performance of database systems resources and query throughput
- Guide colleagues on database best practices.
- Monitor and maintain database storage resources.
- Monitor and maintain database maintenance plans for backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics.
- SQL Server Installation, Upgrades, Migrations and Configuration
- Install database software service packs and cumulative updates, as necessary.
- Maintain database documentation as required.
- Maintain and administer database security access.
- Perform database Ad-hoc backups and restores.
- Trouble shoot and resolve complex database related issues.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement it following best practices.
- Follow Change Management processes to implement database configuration changes (Azure DevOps)
- Follow Problem Management processes to troubleshoot and resolve recurring issues.
- Proactively monitor and respond to MSSQL database Alert.
- Continuous Integration and Deployment in Azure DevOps
- Experience with Microsoft Azure focused on the data solutions (Azure Data Factory / Azure Synapse / SQL database)
- Assist internal/external audit with reporting requirements.
- Develop scripts for consistent and secure execution of common tasks.
- Providing SQL expertise, proposing design recommendations, optimization performance improvements.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS/COMPETENCIES to perform the job duties
Key Education or Certification Required
- Required Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Microsoft SQL certification (MCSA) or ability to work towards this
Required Minimum Number of Years of Relevant Experience
- Required (7) years experience as a database administrator in SQL Server environment.
- Required (3) years experience working in Microsoft Azure or other cloud provider.
- Required (3) years experience working in Microsoft Azure DevOps or other CI/CD tooling.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Experience with SQL Server 2012 and upwards
- Experience with SQL Server integration/Analysis/Reporting services
- Experience with PowerBI
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Operating systems
- Experience with Active Directory / Azure Active Directory
- Good understanding of current database technologies and applications
