What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Project Manager position at R.W. Mercer Co?
R.W. Mercer is a Michigan based General Construction and Petroleum construction/service company with seven branch offices. Mercer is expanding its General Construction division in its Redford office and is looking to fill a position of Assistant Project Manager to work with the Project Manager on construction projects on the East side of Michigan.
This is a full-time position, and the candidate would assist the Project Manager in performing the following duties:
PRECONSTRUCTION:
- Attend design / sales meetings with the prospective client
- Assist in the bidding process
- Send out invitations to bid
- Contact prospective bidders and suppliers
- Manage bidding RFI’s
- Distribute Addendums to bidders
- Assist in compiling and qualifying the bid
- Assist in assembling the proposal documents
- Communicate with local municipalities on permitting requirements
CONTRACT/CONSTRUCTION PHASE:
- Qualify the final scope with the apparent low bidder
- Assist in subcontracts and purchase orders
- Verify lead times and activity durations with subcontractors and suppliers for the construction schedule
- Assist in compiling change orders
- Work as a Team member with the Project Superintendent and Project Manager on managing the project
- Assist in procuring materials and managing their deliveries
- Attend pre-construction meeting
- Record and distribute meeting minutes
- Manage RFI’s during the construction phase
- Receive, log, and distribute submittals / samples for review by the design professionals
- Attend progress meetings
- Assist the Project Team in keeping the schedule updated and distributed
- Assist in reviewing subcontractor / supplier invoices
- Assist in compiling monthly progress reports for the clients
POST CONSTRUCTION PHASE:
- Assist in compiling the punchlist
- Receive and organize the close-out documents
- Collect warranty letters from the trades
- Receive copies of the final inspections and final Certificate of Occupancy
- Assist in collecting the as-built drawings
Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Degree in Construction Management or previous experience in assistant project management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Project, Microsoft Teams
- Ability to adapt to new construction software
- AUTOCAD experience is a plus, but not a requirement
- Willingness to be flexible with duties or working hours in order to achieve a required deadline.
- Knowledge of basic building codes and principles.
- Previous experience is a plus
- Willingness to assist the Superintendent on site if needed
- Willingness to work in a “Team” atmosphere
