ORGANIZATION

The mission of Ravenswood Family Health Network (RFHN) is to improve the health of the community by providing culturally sensitive, integrated primary and preventative health care to all, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status, and collaborating with community partners to address the social determinants of health.

 

POSITION SUMMARY  

Under general supervision of the Clinical Training & Support Supervisor, the Clinical Support Staff Training Coordinator is responsible for the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational and clinical initiatives, and the operational excellence of the clinical support staff including, Medical Assistants, Health Coaches, and Community Health Workers to ensure that clinical support staff have the appropriate training, are proficient in their skills, are competent in their performance and judgment, and can demonstrate their ability to deliver quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, licensing, certification, and professional standards.

 

This position is a member of the Staff Development Department supporting Patient Centered Medical Home standards and Team Care practices.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To be performed in accordance with RFHN Policies and Procedures

This role performs a variety of services related to the professional development of the clinical support staff including but not limited to:

  1. Clinical onboarding of Medical Assistants and paraprofessional clinical support staff to ensure each employee is able to perform a standard level of competency relative to employee’s licensure, certification, job duties, and scope of practice.
  2. Provides orientation, skill-based training, including observation of performance as part of preparing Medical Assistants and paraprofessional staff to work at the top of their scope.
  3. Travels to all locations to observe Medical Assistants and paraprofessional clinical support staff in the exam room to provide feedback and improve required skills/competencies, documentation, and communication for the delivery of safe and patient-centered care.
  4. Assesses ongoing competence with direct patient care/equipment, ensuring there is a clear pathway for clinical support staff orientation with current/updated materials (including baseline competencies, annual review competencies, corporate compliance competencies, HealthStream modules, mock codes and simulated scenarios).
  5. Organizes, conducts, and evaluates internal training programs for Medical Assistants and paraprofessional clinical support staff.
  6. Contributes feedback for 30-60-90-day evaluations and performance evaluations of Medical Assistants and paraprofessional clinical support staff.
  7. Maintains training manuals, training materials, and competency checklist.
  8. Selects or creates materials and appropriate delivery methods for educational programs on a variety of topics (e.g. new employee orientation, job skills training, or clinical performance appraisals) for Medical Assistants and paraprofessional clinical support staff.
  9. Supports the implementation of best practices based on the latest evidence.
  10. Develops, delivers, analyzes, and evaluates microsystem and macrosystem educational needs assessment tools for clinical support staff that are tailored to adult learners.
  11. Produces reports and uses meaningful data to plan educational activities at the microsystem or macrosystem level.
  12. Evaluates Medical Assistants and paraprofessional support staff care outcomes through the acquisition of data and the questioning of inconsistencies, allowing for the revision of actions and goals.
  13. Ensures that staff are properly signed off on required competencies prior to delivering care to an assigned population, especially low volume, high risk skills.
  14. Ensures staff complete recommended external training for their specific department (e.g. Mandated Court Reporting, LGBT Cultural Fluency, BLS, Vaccine storage and Management, Vision Screening Training, Immunization, Pediatric, Adolescent and Adult Immunization Providers, Audiometric Screening, Breathe California Asthma Training, Centering Pregnancy, Wound Care Clinical Lab, Lactation Training, Family Planning Health Worker Certification).

General Agency Duties

  1. Collaborates with the intra and inter-departmental leadership, fellow Staff Development department colleagues, nursing staff, and ancillary services to develop and coordinate system wide educational activities including, designing/developing, implementing/scheduling, and evaluating.
  2. Contributes to educational calendar for RFHN clinical staff.
  3. Incorporates theories and research in generating teaching and counseling strategies to promote and preserve health and healthy lifestyles in client populations.
  4. Uses epidemiological, social, and environmental data to draw inferences regarding the health status of client populations.
  5. Supports the organization's professional practice model.
  6. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds and to promote a strong culture of safety throughout the organization.
  7. Supports the delivery and supervision of client care across a continuum.
  8. Synthesizes data, information, and knowledge on client outcomes and modifies interventions to improve health care outcomes.
  9. Works in an interdisciplinary team to make ethical decisions regarding the application of technologies and the acquisition of data.
  10. Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among patients and staff; maintains strictest confidentiality concerning all patient and employee information. 
  11. Promotes and exemplifies in action the mission, goals, policies, procedures and principles of RFHN to supervisees and other clinic staff.
  12. Other duties as assigned and requested.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Up to date with COVID-19 vaccines per current CDC guidelines required.
  • Must have a valid driver license as traveling between clinic sites will be required. 
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) -AND-
  • Three (3) years of experience working in an outpatient clinic, community health center, public health department clinic, or large multi-disciplinary practice as Medical Assistant -AND-
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in education, organizational development, or job training focused on both non-professional and professional fields of work.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field associated with Adult Learning highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated effective coaching and mentoring experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in a professional manner.
  • Computer literacy required; familiarity with the use of Microsoft Windows. 
  • Experience with the implementation and utilization of electronic practice management systems. Knowledge of the principles of practice management systems required. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the effective and efficient delivery of outpatient clinic operations.
  • Bilingual Spanish language skills:  not required, but highly preferred to facilitate communication with patients and employees.
  • Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent and sensible judgment; demonstrates decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, train, and work respectfully and effectively with a culturally diverse clinic staff.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with the management team, patients, the public, community members, and external agencies.
  • Must adhere to standards of confidentiality.

 

 

The pay range for this position is $35.00 to $45.00 per hour.  However, the final base salary will be determined upon a number of individualized factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education and certification levels, and departmental budget. We also consider internal equity with our current employees when making final offers.
