What are the responsibilities and job description for the Team Member position at Ray Of Light Farm?
Ray of Light Farm, located in East Hadam, CT is non-profit horse and donkey rescue that is open to the public and has a variety of lesson and therapeutic programs. The farm currently provides care for over 50 equines of various types and over 100 small animals including chickens, guinea pigs and goats.
We are seeking a part or full time employee to become a part of our team. Candidates must have weekend availability and be open to the occasional night check in the evenings. Horse experience is preferred, but on-the-job training in our handling methods based on the Irwin Insights program developed by trainer Chris Irwin will be required. This is to ensure the conscientious and consistent handling of our horses. We are looking for someone who will be reliable and able to step in where needed, including for hay deliveries or covering shifts in the event of absences. An ideal candidate will also be able to assist the many volunteers at the farm in their tasks, as well as handle their scheduling.
Job Duties Include:
- Morning paddock hay and water to prepare for turn out
- Turn out of all horses and some small animals
- Barn chores including water buckets, mucking stalls, moving hay and paddock cleaning
- Assisting with programs like birthday parties and guinea pig adventures
- Bringing in of all horses and some small animals
- Feeding horses and some small animals
- Blanketing and other turn out gear as needed
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to drive and willing to learn to pull a trailer (manure only, no horse transporting)
- Must be able to interact with children and other guests in a friendly and professional manner
- Must be able to repeatedly lift hay bales weighing up to 75lbs
