The Resource Forester will work collaboratively with the Resource Unit team to achieve financial goals and desired outcomes. Work across all Unit functions to assist with land management, timber marketing, and resource development, or engineering as needed. Has a basic understanding of timber cruising, GIS, BMPs and/or Forest Practices Rules (PNW), inventory management and working with business systems. Assists with the coordination and supervision of silvicultural operations including site preparation, planting, herbaceous weed control, fertilization, thinning (where applicable), forest road maintenance, boundary, infrastructure, and timber stand improvements. Supports the effective merchandizing of harvested logs to their highest value under a delivered wood system and provides compliance for stumpage sales as needed. Additionally, aids the timber marketing team in tactical harvest scheduling, timber sale design and sale setup. Plays an active role in the overall safety, risk management and environmental compliance programs within area of responsibility.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Forestry, a related field or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of land management with a srong emphasis in silviculture and forest operations administration.
- Ability to maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers
- Basic knowledge of silviculture, financial analysis, GIS applications, forest inventory and analysis, harvesting compliance, log merchandizing, forest protection, road maintenance/improvement activities, budgeting and forecasting process, safety procedures and environmental compliance.
