Under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the execution of programs and practices that attract, motivate and retain diverse talent, delivering exceptional results and ensuring the Firm’s long-term success. Functions include a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to employee lifecycle process and assistance with recruitment, interviewing/selection, onboarding, employee relations, benefits, diversity and inclusion, social activities, compliance, offboarding, and day to day administration.

  • This position is 100% remote.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

HR Operations
  • Responsible for suggesting and implementing efficiencies within processes, workflows, and procedures related to operational effectiveness through the employee lifecycle.
  • Leverage and fully utilize Human Resources Information System (“HRIS”) to create and maintain HR processes in a sustainable and scalable way.
  • Partners with Payroll, Operations, IT, and others to ensure continuity and successful delivery of operational services and exceptional customer service.
Onboarding and Offboarding
  • Conduct new-hire orientation, ensuring that all new-hire employees understand the Firm’s Employee Handbook and policies contained within.
  • Conduct the 30-60-90 day new hire review proces, following up with department leaders and other administrative managers.
  • Process sensitive terminations and oversee the handling of confidential documents.
  • Conduct exit interviews for all departing Firm employees. Prepare employee feedback for presentation to leadership as appropriate.
  • Manage the onboarding and offboarding processes for all Firm employees, identify trends to make recommendations to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee pre-hire credentialing process to include coordination of conflict checks, reference checks, and background checks for all Firm employees. Escalate issues as appropriate.
Benefits
  • Evaluate and monitor current benefit programs and the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; recommend improvements and modifications.
  • Manage, administer, and provide support to Firm Management and employees regarding policy interpretation and implementation of Short-Term Disability (“STD”), Family Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”), and Long-Term Disability (“LTD”) programs. Coordinate return-to-work duty when appropriate.
  • Coordinate and complete all aspects of open enrollment, including design, development, and production of materials, scheduling employee meetings, and processing changes in elections.
  • Manage and administer all Firm benefits, including health insurance, dental, vision, COBRA, 401(K), Cash Balance Pension Plan, Health Savings Accounts, and Flexible Spending Accounts.
  • Provide guidance regarding benefit coverage and applicable procedures and methods to employees, COBRA participants, and dependents; interpret and explain rules and regulations; answer questions and resolve problems or complaints.
Talent Acquisition and Management
  • In collaboration with the Talent Development and Recruiting Manager, provide comprehensive support to the overall talent acquisition effort, including but not limited to recruiting, building a strong candidate pipeline, attracting strong talent, and onboarding.
  • Partner with the Talent Development Director to support the development and delivery of professional skills training for business professionals Firmwide as needed, aligning with the correlating business professional competencies.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer and in collaboration with the with the Talent Development and Recruiting Manager and Practice Management/Client Services Manager participate in the professionals’ performance review cycle process (e.g., annual reviews, interim evaluations, performance improvement plans).
  • Manage relationships and contracts with vendors, including the fee structure for temporary and permanent placements, and actively liaise with recruiting agencies.
  • Provide back up support to the Talent Development and Recruiting Manager and Practice Management/Client Services Manager relating to staffing needs, to ensure a timely and sufficient supply of talented, skilled, experienced people capable of meeting business needs.
Compliance and Employee Relations
  • Work closely with leadership, timekeepers, and administrative staff to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. Develop creative ways to engage employees in team building through training programs and events including social events, wellness events, community service, and other initiatives.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Human Resources Manager, facilitate and document all initial and ongoing disciplinary meetings and make recommendations for possible terminations. Prepare all confidential disciplinary memos and/or Performance Improvement Plans, as needed.
  • Review and participate in salary surveys on a regularly to ensure the Firm maintains competitive pay practices. Analyze survey results to recommend market adjustments if needed.
  • Manage, coordinate, monitor, and audit HR data to ensure integrity, confidentiality, and security.
  • Oversee the development, communication, and implementation of well-being programming in partnership with talent development, marketing, operations, and other departments as appropriate. Increase awareness and engagement in Firm well-being initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of employment related legislation and trends to ensure best practices and compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in human resources and/or law firm operations.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequently reaches and grasps with arms and hands; occasionally stoops and bends; must have manual dexterity.
  • Ability to closely examine and inspect materials.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Frequently uses a keyboard to enter or transform words or data.
  • Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are few physical discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise, and the like.
