Summary:
Redwire Space is developing its next generation of star tracker and sun sensors and needs a Hardware Engineering Manager to support this growth. Your primary responsibilities are to plans, conducts, and supervises assignments, generally involving larger and more important projects or multiple projects. Evaluates and determines changes in methods or procedures in assigned area of responsibility. You will also collaborate with other Electrical engineers and product management, software, mechanical, and others to develop space-qualified hardware PCBs and FPGA designs for our products. The development includes design, analysis, test, qualification, and documentation of designs, supporting the transition of products from Engineering to Manufacturing. Responsibilities:
- Learn applicable product technology, architecture, and design requirements for space-based component systems.
- Provide oversight to technical staff ensuring work assignments are meeting requirements and on track for project milestones.
- Manage resource demands between projects on a daily basis to meet business needs and provide an efficient team environment.
- Design camera and sensor hardware in collaboration with the larger product team to effectively produce optimal hardware designs.
- Analyze and document design specifications, design verification plans and reports, radiation analysis, worst-case analysis, parts stress analysis, and failure modes and effects analysis.
- With the support of the software team, bring up and debug PCB, FPGA, and system-level designs.
- Plan and conduct design verification to ensure designs meet performance, EMC, thermal, radiation, and reliability requirements with appropriate margin. Evaluate any noncompliance and develop solutions to bring the product into compliance.
- Support product release cycles, including manufacturing and test.
- Though typically not part of the role, a willingness to travel if required.
Ideal Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree with eight or more years of relevant experience (Masters in Electrical Engineering preferred)
- Experience leading one or more sections or a small Engineering department
- Experience conducting and leading multiple successful PCB-based hardware designs from requirements to product release
- Experience with qualification testing products to thermal, vibration, shock, and EMC requirements.
- Hands-on experience building test circuits, the use of power supplies, oscilloscopes, and other lab test equipment
- Experience with professional desktop engineering tools on Windows and Linux platforms such as Altium, GIT, RTL Synthesis and Simulation, and MS Office
- US citizenship required
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Working knowledge of SoC / FPGA designs and associated processes (preferably Xilinx Zynq / Vivado)
- An ability to conduct analysis such as radiation, worst case, part stress, basic thermal analysis, and reliability analysis
- Understanding of associated analog circuits, including basic amplifiers, filters, ADC/DAC, power conversion and distribution, ESD protection, etc
- Working user knowledge of Linux as a platform for running test automation
- Camera hardware design experience a plus
- Understanding of standard digital hardware interfaces such as UART, QSPI/SPI, I2C, DAC/ADC, Ethernet, DDR2/3/4 memories
