Summary
Refractory Service, Inc. is a specialized industrial contractor, with over 60 years in the business. This position is responsible for all project deliverables by ensuring that scope, schedule, cost, quality, and resources are used effectively to meet project needs. Quality control and quality assurance are of the utmost importance to help ensure client satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (this is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities):
- Schedules all field bricklayers and laborers as projects come online, by assigning appropriate personnel for specific project tasks.
- Supervises and directs all field installations, ensuring projects are on time, within budget, and maintain superior quality standards:
- Oversees quality control and assurance, to meet both company standards and exceed customer expectations
- Mentoring, coaching, and personnel development is a fixture responsibility
- Understands and implements all manufacturer installation requirements for refractory products
- Trouble-shoots and fixes any equipment issues that may arise with assistance from mechanical department
- Performs project management as it pertains to field installations is a top priority, as some projects have a rapid pace.
- Performs work-related local travel to job sites frequently, occasionally throughout the Midwest including overnight travel.
- Works directly with the Project Coordinators and Estimators assisting with subcontractor selections and oversees subcontractor’s on-site work
- Reports to the Construction Operations Manager and makes recommendations regarding quality of work, potential changes in scope, and identifies ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
- Oversees the MN delivery schedule, ensuring that all material and equipment arrive at jobsites on time and complete.
- Takes care of general maintenance of MN office including overseeing Warehouse Associate & Delivery Driver.
- Acts as primary contact for sales team and office staff, providing field installation updates, conducting inspections, and giving guidance to estimating.
- Works with safety manager to ensure proper safety procedures are followed including: confined space, lock out/ tag out, hot works, fall protection, scaffolding, and more.
Knowledge and Skill
- Proficient construction skills and understanding of installations
- The ability to read blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures
- Excellent ability to work under pressure and maintain awareness of the needs and wants of the customer
- Ability to operate forklift, aerial lift, scissor lift, off-road lifts and extended boom
- Must understand how to operate and maintain power tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and familiar with entering data
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Construction management experience of five years or more is desired
- OSHA 10 (or higher) safety certification preferred
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

Education and/or Experience
Requires high school diploma or general equivalency (GED) and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in site supervision, project management, construction management, or a related field are required.
Language Skills
Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee is occasionally required to walk, use foot/feet to operate machine, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach above shoulders and move from place to place. The incumbent will regularly stand, sit and talk and listen and will frequently use hands to finger, handle or touch. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
During the performance of his/her work duties, the incumbent will be required to occasionally lift up to 55 pounds, and will frequently lift up to 25 pounds such as moving parts from material storage and moving parts in and out of work area.

The employee frequently performs work-related travel to job sites throughout the Midwest. The position will require Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use such as safety glasses, hard hat, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes or work boots, as required on job site. May require safety vest.
The employee works in many confined space environments and is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals. He/she is frequently exposed to fumes, grease, oil, dust, and airborne particles and will be work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
