What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Scientist I, Gene Transfer Technology position at REGENXBIO Brand?
Position Summary
The Associate Scientist I will be assisting the advancement of AAV gene transfer technologies through optimization of the AAV capsid and transgene cassette. Additionally, the Associate Scientist I will support the development of our novel research pipeline and technology platform through collaboration with target discovery, preclinical, bioanalytical and tech ops groups.
Essential Position Requirements
- Perform hands-on experiments in DNA/RNA/Protein extraction from animal tissues, molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture and assay development.
- Perform PCR based experiments for cloning, AAV titer and biodistribution.
- Execute assays to evaluate AAV capsid and transgene cassette in vitro and in vivo.
- Participate and present in team meetings.
- Write internal technical reports.

Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific discipline with 2 years’ experience or Master’s degree in relevant scientific discipline.
- Hands-on experience and current knowledge of molecular biology and protein expression techniques including cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, sequence analysis, mammalian cell transfection and ELISA. Experience with bioinformatics tools to analyze DNA and protein sequences
- Prior experience with recombinant AAV cloning and vector production is a plus.
- Ability to interpret data, draw conclusions, and recommend next steps
- Ability to effectively communicate information and results in the appropriate format (i.e. lab notebooks, presentations, etc.)
- Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team
Working Conditions and Safety
- Employees must adhere to all federal and/or local regulations, laboratory health and safety procedures, and all company Standard Operating Procedures, policies and guidelines.
- Lab work will be conducted with some exposure to chemicals in a biosafety level [2] laboratory requiring personal protective equipment
- Need to be able to focus on executing tasks under verbal and written instructions, as well as distinguish colors, sensory touch, able to hear and read procedures while working.
- The working condition will be in climate-controlled room temperature between 15-30 C
- There will be some exposures to chemicals and biologics but under proper protection and ventilations
