What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editorial Director position at Richmond magazine?
Richmond magazine is seeking an editorial director to oversee the publication of Richmond magazine, the bimonthly shelter magazine RHome, and two yearly issues of Richmond Bride. The ideal candidate will be a journalism professional with at least 7 years of experience in a newsroom in a managerial role.
The successful candidate will possess a deep knowledge of the Richmond region and have the ability to lead a team to produce an award-winning lively magazine that contributes to the community and illuminates the region’s past, present and future.
You must have excellent organizational, time-management and leadership skills and be able to generate original and compelling story ideas. Copy editing skills and knowledge of AP Style are required. Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism.
Responsibilities include:
· Set editorial direction of Richmond magazine and richmondmag.com.
· Work closely with the managing editors of RHome and Richmond Bride on both publications’ editorial direction and content.
· Oversee editorial content across all publications, including legal review when necessary.
· Supervise editorial staff, manage vacation calendars and employee reviews, plan and manage staff meetings.
· Collaborate with creative director and design team on magazine layouts and cover concepts.
· Manage freelance budget.
· Oversee special editorial sections, working with special section editors on story budgets.
· Serve as a first- and second-read editor when necessary.
· Serve as the public face of the magazine for signature events and sponsored events.
· Represent the magazine in the media when necessary.
· Oversee digital and video content with online editor.
· Write bi-weekly editor e-newsletter, coverlines for Richmond magazine and monthly editor’s letter.
· Manage Sunday Story schedule, assigning and editing weekly stories.
