Barn Manager, Ride With Pride Therapeutic Horsemanship Program
Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Caring for and maintaining the amazing therapeutic horses on the RWP team
- Recognizing each horses’ dietary needs and creating a proper feeding regiment (adjusting when necessary to maintain optimum health of the horses).
- Scheduling regular farrier care for all RWP horses and holding the horses during their farrier appointments.
- Keeping detailed records of the horses’ farrier care (including date/type of trim and any changes or notes the farrier may give).
- Implementing regular hoof care treatments when necessary.
- Scheduling regular veterinarian appointments for all RWP horses (including but not limited to vaccines, teeth floats, and sheath cleanings).
- Keeping detailed records of the horses’ veterinarian care (including but not limited to the date of their care, any notes the veterinarian may give, any additional aftercare recommended by the veterinarian).
- Implementing regular aftercare if necessary.
- Monitoring wellness of horses (health, abnormal changes in their bodily habits and functions)
- Contact designated veterinarian office, Program Director, and horse owner in the event of a horse emergency. (Be available to meet with a veterinarian in the event of a horse emergency.)
Supervising the barn staff and delegating responsibilities
- Insuring all 14 barn shifts are covered weekly - ten of which the Barn Manager will be present for - seven days a week, including weekends, maintaining an average of 1.5 hours for morning shifts which begin at 8:00AM, and maintaining an average of 3 hours for the evening shifts, which begin at 4:00. In the event of an emergency or change in job duties, the shifts may require additional time. (The Barn Manager will have two weekdays off each week. .The Program Director will cover horse care medical needs in the absence of the Barn Manager.)
- Maintaining efficiency for themself and the barn staff for regular barn shifts.
Assisting the Program Director whenever necessary
- Hiring barn staff
- Training all new barn staff until they can effectively complete regular choirs independently and safely.
- Assisting team members with their duties when necessary
Work with the Program Director as a representative and Public Relations liaison between the organization and the public and community
- Helping Program Director when fundraiser or community outreach events are scheduled at the facility
Caring for the RWP horses
- Keeping horses mentally capable to participate in RWP and reporting if there are issues with a horse arising. (examples: a horse is nipping at people, a horse seems physically uncomfortable, a horse is non-compliant, a horse is showing signs of aggression)
- Finding potential new horses for the program
- Training and preparing new horses for the program, creating a “lesson environment” and simulating various scenarios and observing how horses react.
- Exercising horses that need more stimulation
- Grooming horses when necessary
Maintaining the barn and grounds
- Insuring barn equipment and lesson equipment are properly cleaned and put away
Maintaining the RWP areas of the facility
- Keeping the RWP areas clean, organized and stocked with necessary supplies
- Informing the Program Director when supplies are low (including medications, feed, and various other supplies and materials).

Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
