Health Mentor

Pay Range: $20-23 per hour

Sign on Bonus: $1500.00

Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a full-time Health Mentor to join our talented InSHAPE team in our Community Support Program treating adults with with severe and persistent mental illness.  

As a Riverbend Health Mentor, you will have the opportunity to work as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team that helps clients make the connection between physical and mental health, and use physical activity and healthy eating as effective coping strategies to manage their symptoms more effectively.  We seek an individual who is a good role model for healthy living – a person with lots of energy, who is a good listener, patient, and understanding.  A sense of humor helps, too. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in setting and working towards realistic health goals.
  • Support clients in initiating and maintaining a physical activity program in the community.
  • Provide education and support around healthy eating, grocery shopping and meal planning.
  • Help clients explore exercise as a coping strategy for symptom management.
  • Perform complete fitness assessments.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the clients' treatment team.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Rehabilitation, Health or Human Services or related field is required.
  • A valid driver’s license, personal vehicle and auto insurance is required.
  • Certification or willingness to pursue certification as an entry-level personal trainer through one of the following organizations is required: American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
  • Active CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification is required.
