Education:
High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED) and six years of experience in computer technology, communication networking, customer meter data, or related field which includes experience in the configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and analysis of systems, networks, computers, and meter equipment. Coursework and certificates in computer science, meter installation, and meter configuration would substitute for some of the required experience.
Experience with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system administration and experience working at a utility is desirable.
Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License within 60 days of employment. Willingness and ability to work outside regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs.

AMI SYSTEM SPECIALIST

JOB SUMMARY
This is a technical position responsible for all Tower Gateway Base Station (TGB) system connections ensuring each unit optimally communicates with meter endpoints in the field and sends the data to the Regional Network Interface (RNI) head-end. The position troubleshoots and resolves communication issues with AMI meters and RF network devices. The AMI Network Specialist works cooperatively with the Senior Specialist as needed and reports directly to the Operational Technology Superintendent.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
- Acts as the subject matter experts (SME) to troubleshoot and resolve communication issues with AMI meters and RF network devices by issuing commands to equipment, remotely querying equipment, checking the status of system networks, and securing endpoint information
- Issues, coordinates, and oversees related service orders to ensure that issues are resolved.
- Works with Operations staff to take corrective action to resolve conditions with system hardware.
- Provides AMI system support to other operational areas in the department by providing technical assistance to field personnel performing installation and maintenance of the network equipment and devices.
- Provides data and system information related to inquiries from billing, customer resource, and engineering sections; extracting data as needed.
- Monitors system events, which will assist in proactively identifying data and system anomalies such as potential tamper/theft, outage, and communication events.
- Documents procedures and provides end-user training on systems and processes.
- Contributes to the efficient utilization of the AMI system by monitoring endpoint communication meter exception reports to validate the readiness of reads.
- Ensures that meter changes (add/change/remove) are accurately and timely recorded.
- Makes recommendations on process improvements in response to system alarms and notifications.
- Develops and customizes system reports; maintaining databases to track network devices.
- Develops dashboards and key performance indicator views to monitor the AMI system.
- Makes recommendations on equipment procurement, repair, and disposal.

- Knowledge of designated computer software and hardware, information systems applications, network system architecture, network operating systems, and multiple networking protocols.
- Knowledge of performance and traffic monitoring, security and integrity maintenance, structure development, features, and access configurations and interfacing.
- Knowledge of data network operations and procedure analysis and design.
- Knowledge of records storage and handling techniques.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and maintain metering software, networks, and Tower Gateway Base Stations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and technical procedure manuals.
- Ability to develop reports and establish and maintain accurate records of network operations.
- Ability to analyze and interpret computerized data and identify anomalies within the data.
