Major responsibilities
- Configure monitoring utilities for databases to keep false alarms to a minimum
- Suggest solutions for database design, tuning options, and other potential issues
- Restore service to databases as outages happen, including after hours and on weekends
- Figure out the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes
- Handle the installation, configuration, and maintenance of all database instances across development, staging, and production environments
- Establish the baseline for system performance and detect deviation, suggesting and executing improvements to slow running queries
- Ensure database server topology, configuration, and maintenance are designed and executed to meet SLA objectives
Requirements
- Prior experience building and maintaining documentation
- Deep understanding of indexing
- Comprehensive knowledge of Database Tuning
- Database Administration experience
- Capacity Management experience preferred
- Tuning performance measurement experience
- Aptitude for adjusting queries to improve performance
- 4 years of database experience
- Strong knowledge of relational database management systems
- Experience in production environments and willingness to be on-call
- Storage and server hardware experience a plus
