Position Summary
The Manager of Wellness & Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) will be responsible for co-managing the team of Wellness Counselors, Wellness Teachers, and Wellness Counselor Interns at Rocketship Public Schools. At Rocketship, we have made a strong historical commitment to the social-emotional development of our students as well as implementing best practices in supporting behavior. For multiple years, a regular daily component of our school day is a dedicated block to proactively teach social-emotional skills. We have well built PBIS systems and routines at every campus as well as a well built out suite of social-emotional and behavior interventions. The Wellness & MTSS Team is responsible for the ongoing elevation of these systems and structures as well as the delivery of many of these services including but not limited to: social-emotional learning, social-emotional & behavioral interventions and supports, and mental health services (including ERMHS). The Wellness & MTSS Team Manager will co-manage Rocketship’s Bay Area team of Wellness Counselors & Teachers, support the execution of the vision for social-emotional and behavioral services within Rocketship, support schools in the execution of compliant practices related Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS), and support the implementation of high quality behavioral and social-emotional interventions in schools.
The Wellness & MTSS Team Manager reports to the Associate Director of Wellness MTSS. They will directly manage a team of 6-9 Wellness Counselors, Teachers and Interns in the 2024-2025 school year. This position requires managerial experience, or a desire to gain managerial experience, as well as experience interacting effectively with school-level administrators, and parents and families. Ideally the candidate will be able to provide clinical supervision for Wellness Counselors who are associates and/or interns seeking licensure.
The following are core responsibilities and qualifications:
- Develop, manage, and retain a high performing team of Wellness Counselors toward supporting schools and school leaders in ensuring exceptional outcomes for students with unique learning, social-emotional, and behavioral needs
- Model and sustain a culture of high performance and service orientation among team members.
- Implement and oversee execution of Rocketship’s vision and approach to social-emotional and behavioral services, serving always as a model of meaningful inclusion and contributing to Rocketship Education’s standing as a continued leader in the field for effective, efficient and high-quality services for all students, including those students with special needs.
- Support the consistent implementation of evidence-based practices and social-emotional interventions amongst Wellness Counselors, including planning, goal setting, executing, progress monitoring, and documenting practices for interventions.
- Develop and/or ascertain culturally competent training and professional development opportunities for the Wellness Team around improving student outcomes and support, as well as building their clinical skills and abilities.
- Hold weekly 1:1s for direct reports and facilitate group supervision
- Promote the development of counseling skills and approaches through evaluations and assessments. Address legal and ethical issues within mental health counseling.
- Provide consultation with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student’s program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
- Ensure compliance of ERMHS services and adhere to IDEA timelines; Fill in services during any extended absence of a Wellness Counselor.
- Willingness to be trained and facilitate crisis prevention trainings to school-based staff
- Maintain a close working relationship with other members of the Network Support Team (NeST—Rocketship’s centralized office that operates in support of its schools and regions), school directors, ISE Team, other MTSS Team members, and all school staff (teachers, school leaders, support staff, etc.).
- Ensure the Wellness Team is viewed as positive supports to the organization’s mission that are fully aligned with Rocketship’s Core Characteristics (Innovation, Pursuit of Excellence, Authenticity, Community, and Tenacity), and not as bureaucratic obstacles to serving the needs of the students.
- Support the consistent implementation of evidence-based academic, behavior, and social-emotional interventions in Rocketship CA schools; create user-friendly resources that support MTSS Leads/school leaders in the implementation of these interventions; design and implement professional development opportunities to build MTSS Lead/school leader capacity to implement a multi-tiered system of supports in assigned Rocketship schools.
- Attend school-site quarterly meetings and additional school MTSS support meetings as needed to ensure MTSS compliance and consistency, and uphold a standard of utilizing data to drive the meeting and subsequent decisions using our MTSS Database and Intervention System.
- Design and execute staff professional development opportunities related to MTSS (systems, structures, interventions, coaching, etc.) for a range of audiences (directors of schools, school leaders, MTSS Leads, teachers, Wellness Counselors/Teachers, etc.);
- Design and lead regular team meetings and routines, inspiring and supporting the CA regional MTSS teams and campus-based MTSS Leads to support the vision for MTSS in Rocketship schools.
- Monitor the overall health of MTSS at assigned CA schools with joint system reviews to address growth areas, joint schedule creation, support for CPTs, PD customization and facilitation for summer PD and during the school year.
- Problem solve and provide resource support to CA DoS and Principals on next steps for specific-school sites as needed to ensure fidelity to overall MTSS systems and structures.
- Highly Preferred: Fully valid licensed LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC as defined by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or licensed Clinical Psychologist.
- Highly Preferred: License to supervise ASWs, APCCs, AMFTs, as defined by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or School Psych Interns, School Counselors (PPS Interns)
- Highly Preferred: Experience in elementary schools, working with students with a range of disabilities (learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral challenges, autism, etc.), and familiarity with special education, IEP team participation and ERMHS
- Familiarity with socio-emotional learning competencies, trauma-informed education practices, multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS), and restorative justice practices a plus
- Strong written communication skills, verbal communication skills, and organizational skills as demonstrated by the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
- Ability to be flexible and adaptive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and with a diverse population of clients
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license: willingness to provide own transportation in conduct of work assignments as you will be required to travel from site to site to work with students and faculty at all sites (mileage reimbursed)
- Additional Details:
- The Wellness & MTSS Team Manager will work on the NeST calendar, which includes paid time off for holidays, but does not fully adhere to the school calendar breaks/vacations
