Position Summary:
The First Year Experience & Instruction Librarian is responsible for coordination of First Year related instruction, activities, and services, as well as the creation, implementation, and maintenance of library instructional materials to support continuous improvement of student learning and engagement. This position serves as an excellent opportunity to gain a variety of experience for professional growth and development.
Sample of Primary Duties (a full job description will be provided upon request):
- Conduct research appointments and library instruction for first year and orientation classes, as well as designated liaison departments and programs.
- Serve as an expert on issues relating to first-year students, first generation students, undergraduate retention, and student success.
- Represent RSU Libraries on committees and in campus-wide discussions regarding first-year students.
- Coordinate library services, activities, and initiatives related to library resources, instruction, and student success.
- Develop outreach materials, activities, and initiatives geared toward engaging diverse user groups and promoting student success.
- Create new and update existing library educational tutorials and libguides for students, faculty, & staff.
- Collaborate with faculty on customized research assignments and/or class content.
- Coordinate library participation in campus orientation activities.
- Coordinate with Library Activities Committee to plan and deliver library activities and services geared toward first-year student retention and student success.
- Collaborate with other librarians for the creation, implementation, and assessment of first-year information literacy learning objectives.
- Serve as proactive library liaison by establishing and maintaining collaborative and effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students in select departments and programs.
- Recommend purchases and coordinate acquisition of Faculty requests for materials within designated liaison areas.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Reports to: Library Director
Supervision Given to: Student Workers
Hours: Day shift Monday-Friday with the exception of one evening a week and weekend hours in rotation.
Position: Professional, Full-time, FLSA Exempt

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program and at least one year experience in an academic library
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience and aptitude for teaching information literacy and research skills in an academic library, with special regard for first-year students.
- Knowledge of online learning techniques, including the ability to design library tutorials, videos, and learning objects.
- Knowledge of trends and services in academic libraries to support first year experience programs.
- Experience and aptitude for providing in-person and digital instruction and presentations.
- Demonstrate strong public service orientation and proficiency in all modes of reference service and research consultation with diverse user groups.
- Ability to work well in a team as well as individually.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
