The tasks and responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager are outlined below:
- Documents and responds to employee relation issues such as complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints.
- Consults with management for training and staff development to enhance the effectiveness of employee performance in achieving the goals and objectives of the company.
- Works in concert with operations and facilities management to guarantee a safe and secure working environment and maintain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) standards.
- Develops, recommends, and implements personnel policies and procedures in support of the operational efficiency of the organization.
- Develops understanding and mentors supervision and management in human resources practice/law.
- Maintains positive labor relations; drives open door communication policy in maintaining a non-union status in the organization.
- Administers and facilitates workers compensation program; works with management to identify light duty accommodations; communicates progress and claims issues with insurance company claim representative; maintains documentation and medical records on individual claims.
- Performs benefits administration to include claims resolution, approving invoices for payment, and communicating benefit information to employees.
- Implements and annually updates compensation program; rewrites job descriptions as necessary; conducts and participates in annual salary surveys; analyzes compensation; monitors performance evaluation program and revises as necessary.
- Manages recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel and temporary employees; monitors new-employee orientations; manages career development and succession planning efforts; employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling, and exit interviewing; writes and places media advertisements.
- Establishes and maintains department records.
- Process related questionnaires and documents for unemployment compensation matters, represents the company for any unemployment claims.
- Manage the budget and other financial measures of the Human Resources Department.
- Maintain current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources.
- Participate in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings, such as seminars.
- Responsible to perform all duties in a safe, clean and organized manner.
- Participates in special projects as required.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
The skills and qualifications required for the Human Resources Manager are outlined below:
- B. S. degree in a Business or Human Resources related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
- 3-5 years experience in a Human Resources leadership role.
- Previous experience working within a distribution setting preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication; presentation of training materials, processing of various internal and government required documentation.
- Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations; position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
- Must have a working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and presentation software. (Microsoft Office, Visio, MS. Experience working with UKG and Paychex software a plus.)
