Position: Medical Manager
ROOTs Transition, located in Park City, Utah, serves females 14-18 years old who have attachment, relational and/or developmental trauma utilizing a hybrid model of outdoor reflection and residential integration. We are a small community of individuals dedicated to providing intentional programming with a trauma informed approach. Reclaiming Our Original Truths (ROOTs) serves as a guiding principle for our clients in their healing process.
Qualifications:
Experience and Education
- At least 24 years of age
- Background in nursing/medicine
- Must have at least an RN degree
- Experience working with adolescent females (preferred, but not required)
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Ability to maintain healthy professional boundaries
- Willing to learn and apply new skills
- Must be emotionally mature enough to maintain composure and good judgment in the face of highly stressful interactions

Position Overview:
Maintains overall responsibility for all medical needs of ROOTs clients. Directly supervises the Medical Coordinator, attends weekly Leadership and Treatment Team meetings. Develops and implements all policies and procedures related to the medical department. Meets with clients on a weekly basis.
Responsibilities:
- To effectively manage and decrease medical risk by doing the following:
- Overseeing all medical needs of ROOTs clients which may include, but is not limited to:
- Monthly medical checks
- Weekly check-ins with clients that have current medical needs
- Overseeing daily medication administration by: periodically administering client medications and making any necessary changes to EMAR to ensure accurate administration of medications
- Triaging medical calls throughout the week
- Ensuring Psychiatrist medication changes are implemented correctly
- Communicating with parents of clients regarding medical needs
- Overseeing medical coordinator’s role to ensure all data is collected and input into specific documents correctly. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Weights
- Admission information
- Packaging of medications and inputting information into client Medication Record
- Communication with pharmacy
- Sending prescriptions in
- Ensuring medications arrive from pharmacy and are correct
- Ensuring enough medications are received for client discharge
- Packaging medications for outings and home visits
- Scanning documents into charting system
- Ensuring appointments are carried out appropriately and parents are aware of appointment outcomes
- Depending on license, may diagnose and prescribe medications depending on client needs.
- Make decisions regarding the health of the program’s clients and employees depending on the current state of the world.
- Train new hires on medical needs which may include, but are not limited to: medication administration, triaging/documenting medical events
- Educate all staff, once yearly, on medication administration. May be done by the Medical Director or other staff deemed appropriate to train staff.
- Complete a medical assessment on all new clients.
- Support, cooperate with, implement and enforce confidentiality of all data, including client, employee and company records and information.
- Support, cooperate with, implement and enforce all ROOTs policies and procedures
- Create a positive environment for the medical coordinator to thrive and give feedback as necessary.
- To demonstrate positive role modeling and mentoring of clients by doing the following:
- Provide a positive role model for all clients, adhering to the principles and values of the company as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Play an active role in the community by creating an emotionally safe space for clients to bring up concerns, feedback, etc.
- To demonstrate commitment and responsibility in completing all job duties including:
- Consistently exercise good judgment and adequate emotional stability in evaluating situations and making decisions despite the pressures of deadlines or the occurrence of unexpected stressful events.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Work includes active movement around the facility and during outdoor activities.
- Employees must be able to participate alongside clients in outdoor activities that include, but are not limited to: hiking, biking, camping, skiing, etc.
- Staff must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, and be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Employees must be able to operate a vehicle and sit for extended periods of time while operating a vehicle.
Salary: Starting pay range $35,000/year (depending on experience)
