Job Title: Therapeutic Parent Mentor

Reports To: Community Program Supervisor

Job Status: Full-time

Job Location: In-home, Community, Office

Summary:

Complete parenting assessments, parent mentoring services and therapeutic parenting time, as well as facilitate comfort calls and circle of support meetings.

The Therapeutic Parent Mentor will support anti-oppressive/anti-racist practice, and trauma-responsive practice, through their administrative, financial and operations support of program staff working on site and in community to address socioeconomic and health disparity. Experience and interest in working with clients with a range of identities including age, developmental and acquired disabilities, religion, spirituality, ethnicity, race, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, relationship structure, indigenous heritage, national origin, immigration status, and gender is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete parent assessments and make culturally appropriate, strengths-based recommendations for services
  • Provide parent mentoring to families
  • Provide therapeutic supervised visitation that is strengths-based and culturally informed
  • Respond effectively to cultural and clinical needs of clients and families
  • Encourage client retention and regular communication, coordinate services with other health care providers to ensure that clients receive adequate services
  • Connect families to community resources and advocate for them within oppressive systems
  • Ensure adequate documentation of services, i.e., complete progress notes, parenting assessments and supervised visitation notes
  • Participate in department clinical supervision, team consultation and other meetings, including a monthly group training session.
  • Engage community providers for successful partnerships
  • Apply evidence-based practices (QPI) to advocate for family reunification
  • Keep up to date with current changes in the field through the use of supervision, appropriate conferences, in-services and reading
  • Ensure parenting advocates are using effective models to teach parenting skills
  • Complete diagnostic assessments and provide 1:1 therapy
  • Receive supportive supervision as needed

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in a mental health field, working towards licensure
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience required
  • Ability to work independently, use time effectively, work under stress and intervene appropriately in crisis situations
  • Ability to work respectfully in diverse home settings
  • Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and current automobile insurance required
  • Candidates from diverse, multi-lingual and underserved populations encouraged to apply
  • Experience with child welfare systems.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
