What are the responsibilities and job description for the CEI Inspector position at RS&H?
The Opportunity
We are seeking a CEI Inspector for our Transportation-Construction management (T-CM) Practice in Virginia Beach, VA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Observe the Contractors work to determine the progress and quality of work on construction projects
- Identify discrepancies, reports significant discrepancies to supervisor, and directs the Contractor to correct such observed discrepancies
- Work independently, under general supervision, exercising advanced judgment in the application of standard methodologies and procedures for complex projects
- Perform highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making, and checking engineering computations
- Inspecting construction work and conducting field tests and is responsible for coordinating and managing lower level inspectors
- Reads and interprets contract documents (plans and specifications) to determine if the contractor’s work is in substantial compliance with the contract documents. May make and/or check engineering computations
- Maintains detailed accurate records of the Contractor’s daily operations and of significant events that affect work
- Inspects construction work
- Performs sampling and field testing of component materials and completed work in accordance with the Construction Contract documents
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 4 years relevant experience
- Prior experience in construction inspection, including exposure to bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or a Civil Engineering degree with the ability to earn additional required qualifications within one year
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods, under various outside conditions
- Ability to reach horizontally as well as vertically for required tasks
- Ability to use construction or inspection safety equipment including fall protection
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and shake up to 20 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- ACI concrete level I
- Density testing
- Asphalt Paving I
- Water and sewer installation inspection
- Basic computer knowledge
