Job Profile Name: Survey Technician
Job Profile Summary: The Survey Technician is an entry level position that involves collecting data and making maps of Earth’s surfaces. Position requires site visits to take measurement of lands and involves use of geographic data. This position supports surveyors, cartographers, and photogrammetrists and requires working in the fields extensively.
Job Description Duties & Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL:
- Conducts site visits to record survey, measurements, and other descriptive data.
- Operates surveying instruments, such as electronic distance measuring equipment (robotic total stations), to collect location data.
- Sets out stakes and marks to conduct a survey.
- Searches for previous survey points, such as stone markers.
- Enter data from surveying instruments into computers, either during field visits or in an office.
OTHER:
- All job-related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Post secondary training in survey technology and mapping is preferred.
- ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro software proficiency is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- A strong understanding of Geodesy, coordinate systems and datums
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Ability to use sound judgement and work safely
- Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing and prioritizing with attention to details

- An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities.
