Job Summary:

The Positive Support Professional (formerly Behavior Analyst) is responsible for conducting individualized functional behavior assessments and collaborating with individuals to develop person-centered, positive behavior support plans. This role involves distributing plans to the individual and their team members, evaluating the effectiveness of interventions, and providing onsite instructional learning to staff and caregivers.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Functional Behavior Assessment:
    • Complete individualized functional behavior assessments to understand the root causes of challenging behaviors.
  • Behavior Support Plan Development:
    • Work closely with individuals to develop person-centered, positive practice behavior support plans.
    • Identify specific, proactive, and reactive intervention strategies as needed.
  • Plan Distribution:
    • Distribute behavior support plans to the individual and their team members, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Evaluation of Effectiveness:
    • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of behavior support plans and interventions.
  • Plan Modification:
    • Modify behavior support plans as necessary based on ongoing evaluation and feedback.
  • Onsite Instructional Learning:
    • Provide onsite instructional learning sessions to staff and caregivers regarding the implementation of positive support.
  • Training and Supervision:
    • Train and supervise positive support analysts and specialists to ensure consistency and quality in service delivery.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

*Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Nursing, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.

OR

  • Ph.D. in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields with demonstrated expertise in positive support services, as determined by the person's case manager based on the individual's needs outlined in their community support plan.

Candidates must also have:

  • At least 4,000 hours of post-master's supervised experience in the delivery of clinical services in the competency areas outlined in the job description.

OR

  • For candidates with a master's degree in Nursing, at least 4,000 hours of post-master's supervised experience in the delivery of clinical services, with demonstrated experience in psychiatric and mental health nursing. Additionally, certification by a national nurse certification organization as a clinical specialist or nurse practitioner in adult or family psychiatric and mental health nursing would be beneficial.

In addition to the education and experience requirements, candidates must meet one of the following licensing requirements:

  1. Psychologist licensed under Minn. Stat. §148.88 to §148.98.
  2. Independent clinical social worker licensed under Minn. Stat. Ch. 148D.
  3. Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university with at least 4,000 hours of post-master’s supervised experience in the delivery of clinical service in the competency areas listed above.
  4. Physician licensed under Minn. Stat. Ch. 147 and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or eligible for board certification in psychiatry with demonstrated experience in the competency areas listed above.
  5. Licensed professional clinical counselor under Minn. Stat. §148B.50 to148B.593 with at least 4,000 hours of post-master’s supervised experience in the delivery of clinical services with demonstrated experience in competency areas listed above.
  6. Master’s degree or Ph.D. in one of the behavioral sciences or related field with demonstrated expertise in positive support services, as determined by the person’s case manager based on the person’s needs outlined in his/her community support plan.
  7. Registered nurse licensed under Minn. Stat. §148.171 to §148.285 who has demonstrated experience in the competency areas listed above and fulfills one of the following requirements:
    • Certification by a national nurse certification organization as a clinical specialist or nurse practitioner in adult or family psychiatric and mental health nursing.
    • Master’s degree in nursing or one of the behavioral sciences or related fields from an accredited college/university or its equivalent with at least 4,000 hours of post-master’s supervised experience in the delivery of clinical services.

· Walking on an on-going basis.

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Verbally communicating with others on an on-going basis.

· Listening to others on an on-going basis.

· Reach and grip with hands frequently.

· Use of motor skills for typing and utilizing computer and phone frequently.

· Stoop, kneel, crouch on occasion.

· Peripheral vision on an on-going basis.

· Ability to carry 15 pounds.


Environmental Requirements:

· Works with others on an on-going basis

· Office environment on an on-going basis

  • Data collection, staff training, and support plan monitoring.
  • Treatment of co-occurring mental and neurocognitive disorders.
  • Demonstrated expertise with relevant populations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License and maintenance of vehicle insurance.
  • Proficiency in technology use (hardware and software).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong time management skills.
