Job Summary
Assists professional staff in performing direct patient care tasks. Provides direct patient care as delegated by nursing and therapy staff and directed by the patient care plan.
Essential Job Functions
Provides direct patient care as delegated by nursing and therapy staff and directed by the patient care plan. Care activities functions include but are not limited to: Bedside carryover tasks (ROM, assistive standing devices, adaptive equipment, ADL care, special positioning techniques, splints|contracture care, bladder retraining) Bathing Safe patient transport, positioning and transfer Pool support (transfers, dressing, showering) Participation in treatment sessions| groups (set|up and clean|up, supply retrieval) Supervision of patient individual exercise programs Active participation in therapy groups and special events Use of patient and therapy equipment Ensuring that patients have their recommended adaptive equipment available and coaching them in its use. Reporting lack of and|or missing equipment and supplies to appropriate personnel. Takes patient vital signs Patient feeding (set up, checking diet, accurately recording intake and output, feeding patients when necessary, supervision).
Assists in patient supervision to ensure safety.
Responsible for communicating with nursing and therapy staff regarding patient care.
Documents in electronic medical record as needed.
Performs all duties with a customer service focus while recognizing and respecting cultural differences.
Responsible for taking inventory, stocking and organizing therapy and nursing supplies|equipment and notifying manager|supervisor of any needs.
Assists with laundry, makes patient beds and organizes bedside.
Maintain equipment calibration logs.
Practices infection control procedures in changing suction canisters and cleaning of equipment and toys using hospital approved disinfectant. Complete infection control log as necessary.
Assists with clerical duties as needed (i.e. answering phones, copying, hanging scheduling).
Assists with orientation of new staff and volunteers.
Formal Education and Job-Related Experience
* High school diploma required. Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) curriculum completion or Medical Assistant certification preferred.
Certification
* AHA BLS Provider Certification required.
