What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Buyer position at SA Recycling?
Primary Responsibilities of a Buyer
- Procure and price ferrous and/or non-ferrous materials within guidelines for new and existing accounts, as determined by the Regional and/or General Manager.
- Develop strategic plans for new business to generate new sources of ferrous and/or non-ferrous material.
- Visit and maintain current and potential customers such as demolition contractors, dealers, auto wreckers, construction projects, industrial accounts to generate and investigate new sources of ferrous and/or non-ferrous material.
- Monitor commodity market trends in conjunction with the operation's material flow to make informed purchase decisions to maximize profitability.
- Purchase scrap so that volume and profitability targets are met or exceeded.
- Ensure that purchased ferrous and/or non-ferrous materials conform to specifications.
- Investigate and resolve supplier complaints, ensuring complaints are recorded, and follow-up actions are verified, in accordance with the SA Recycling’s guidelines.
- Complete and submit monthly reports in a timely and accurate manner and participate in meetings to discuss and review results as required.
Qualifications of a Buyer:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, sales or marketing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal industry as well as processing & logistics techniques.
- Prior experience in ferrous and non-ferrous buying preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to resolve issues and provide solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
