JOB DESCRIPTION:
Open availability Needed 25-40hrs/week
As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Cake Decorator provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Decorates cakes and pastries with designs using icing bag or paper cone. Trims uneven surfaces of cake or cuts and shapes cake to required size using knife. Spreads icing between layers and on surfaces of cake using spatula. Tints white icing with food coloring. Inserts die of specific design into tip of bag or paper cone and fills bag or cone with colored icing. Squeezes bag to eject icing while moving bag with free-arm writing motions to form design on cake. Forms decoration on flower nail and transfers decorations to cake using scissors. Maintains product organization in freezer or cooler. Fills cases, refrigerated gondola and table displays. Mixes whipping cream and butter cream. Interacts with customers face to face or via telephone to obtain special order information. Suggests products and designs for customers. Cleans work area. Monitors supplies, inventories and transmits orders to
Bakery Manager.
JOB DUTIES:
Safeway Cake Decorator employees are generally responsible for completing the following job duties:
1. Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.
1. Decorate cakes and pastries.
1. Mix icing, whipping cream, and butter cream for decoration.
1. Fill display cases and table displays.
1. Take orders from customers via telephone or face to face for special orders.
1. Read orders, tags, displays, and recipes.
1. Organize and clean cake decorating area and freezer or cooler.
1. Read various sales and production reports.
1. Other duties as assigned.
JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to follow company customer service procedures. Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.

Use of peripheral vision and depth perception to move around crowded work area. Near vision used to read displays, instructions, orders, etc. and to prepare and decorate cakes in a pleasing manner. Use of color vision to adequately blend colors, mix icing and prepare cakes.
Hearing:
To converse with customers to take orders, provide service, and understand questions. To answer pages and receive information from other employees.
Speech:
To converse with customers, answer questions, obtain information and suggest products. To page other employees over intercom, or exchange information with other employees.
