What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grocery Stock Clerk position at Safeway?
- Provide world class customer service to all late night customers that shop in the store prior to closing. Mainly focused on cultivating a friendly atmosphere and assisting customers with finding items or pulling items out of the backroom that sold out during the day.
- Reporting to and assisting the grocery department manager in various tasks throughout the department such as : stocking/rotating product on shelves and pulling forward ("facing"), customer service, department cleanliness and organization.
- Breaking down product from pallets to 6-wheel dollies for transport to the sales floor where cases are then dropped next to their corresponding locations on the shelves.
- Stocking items to the shelf on your assigned aisle(s) using Safeway's best practices. (Placing the product in the correct location on the shelf designated by a shelf tag with the UPC number that matches the UPC number on the barcode of the item itself)
- Rotating older product already on the shelf forward to ensure expiration date integrity and minimize having to pull expired product from the shelf to be disposed of.
- Returning overstock cases to the designated area in the backroom and keeping the product stored/stacked neatly in accordance with Safeway's guidelines. Working old overstock that has sold through and can now be placed on the shelf.
- Facing product on your assigned aisles forward in accordance with Safeways guidelines. (Spinning labels forward, all items lining up with their corresponding tags, flush/neat presentation of product all the way down every shelf to create a smooth image for customers)
- Disposing of empty cardboard cases and plastic to the designated areas in the backroom. Emptying the cardboard baler machine by "tieing a bale". Training provided.
This is a physically intense job with a focus on speed as well as strength that will determine job performance. A willingness to work in cold temperatures as needed to assist in the Dairy and Frozen sections of the department is a major plus!
This is an overnight shift which typically runs from 9pm-6am but can vary by 1-2 hours.
