Essential Duties:


  • Communicates with physicians regarding any change in residents’ condition, lab results, consults etc, and obtains physician’s orders as needed.
  • Prepares the Physician Communication Form for each resident for scheduled doctor appointments
  • Prepares lab orders and assists in obtaining specimens as needed
  • Acts as primary preceptor to newly hired Resident Assistants and Medication Technicians, providing training and orientation. Provides timely feedback to Delegating Nurse regarding employee progress.
  • Through instruction, review and/or direct observation, assures competency of Medication Technicians in the performance of vital signs, glucose levels, and height/weight management, as well as medication administration.
  • Assures monthly medication administration records are completed accurately, including medication administration times.
  • Reviews all medication administration records weekly or as instructed, assuring accuracy of medication administration performed by Medication Technicians. Errors are documented and reported to the Delegating Nurse for appropriate follow up. Upon direction of Delegating Nurse, conducts ad hoc staff education on proper medication administration protocol and procedures.
  • Keeps medication room and medication carts clean, neat and orderly, inspecting medications for expiration dates as well as assuring a physician’s order is present for all medications being administered. Appropriately destroys medication as directed by the Delegating Nurse.

  • Performs other duties as assigned which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: (must meet requirements for employment)

Education: Certificate of Practical Nursing. Current Maryland License as LPN

Experience: One year previous experience in assisted living or similar healthcare setting.


SPECIAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to communicate in English
  • Must be able to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with people at different organizational levels, both internally and externally
  • Must be computer literate
  • Moderate reading, writing, and mathematics skills


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, twist, walk, grasp, and hold
  • An individual in this position will be required to lift or carry weight in the following range: up to 50 pounds.
  • The essential sensory and communicative activities include seeing, speaking, hearing, and feeling.
  • Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility. Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours. Subject to indoor environmental conditions; moderate exposure to blood and body fluids.

  • Promotes positive public relations with residents, patients, participants, family members and visitors

  • Demonstrates flexibility to perform duties wherever volume deems it necessary within the department/organization.
  • Complete requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes, including wearing employee identification badge in view at all times.
