Essential Job Duties
- Interacts with library customers, both in person and on the telephone
- Operates personal computer to check materials in and out
- Operates cash register and collects money for overdue fines and other charges
- Answers inquiries from library customers about borrowing procedures and library services
- Accepts library card applications, including verifying customer identification and eligibility for services
- Checks shelves to search for requested library materials
- Shelves library materials on hold shelves to facilitate self service pick up
- Answers telephone calls
- Sorts and shelves library materials
- Empties book drops and performs clerical support tasks, as needed
- May use automated sorting machines and self check stations
- Knowledge of computerized library systems
- Ability to perform basic keyboarding skills using Windows-based software
- Ability to use a PC, cash register and other basic office equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Ability to handle cash and make change
- Requires mental alertness, focus and attention to detail
- Requires ability to problem solve and handle difficult customer service situations
Physical Requirements
- Manual dexterity and extensive wrist and hand movements to hold library materials under a laser and/or place materials between shelved items
- Visual acuity, corrected, to read computer screen and letters and numbers (as small as 10 font) on spine labels
- Ability to grasp and lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds
- Ability to push/pull a loaded shelving cart weighing up to 150 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop or kneel to reach the lowest book shelves and reach to a maximum of six feet, with or without a step stool, to place materials on upper shelves
Pay Rate: $13.79 per hour, no benefits
Work Hours: Varies; no set work schedule.
Work Locations: Must be available to work at four or more library locations.(Refer to map for specific library addresses.)
Work Requirement: Substitutes are required to work one Saturday per month, either four or eight-hour shift, and work a minimum of 20-25 hours on average a month.
TEMPORARYPOSITIONS:
An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.
- Must workan average of29 hours or less per week oran average of129 hours or less per month.
- Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
- Are not considered merit employees.
- Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires the ability to walk extensive distances, kneel, bend, and stand for long periods of time, climb stairs while transporting medical equipment, twisting and lifting heavy equipment, lift backboards and transport patients up or down stairs.
Must have weeknight and weekend availability.
All certifications/licenses must be current.
