The Patient Access Manager reports to the Patient Financial Services Director and works closely with hospital Case Management, Scheduling, Utilization Review, Health Information Management, Patient Financial Services, Referral/Prior Authorization, Hospital/Clinic Operations, and clinical service departments to ensure effective patient access operations both inter- and intra-departmentally.
The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the Samaritan Revenue Cycle, along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Manages all aspects of registration to promote complete, accurate, and timely submission of data throughout the revenue cycle.
- Produces reports and provides recommendations concerning improvement in access management to ensure patient information is complete and accurate for billing and clinical purposes.
- Collaborates with director to set, monitor, and respond to staff performance standards, and produces regular reports on team members’ productivity.
- Creates and implements methodologies to measure and improve customer satisfaction.
- Addresses patient complaints in a timely and courteous manner.
- Manages front-end processes, such as point-of-service collections, medical necessity checks, patient check-in and registration, pre-authorization, insurance eligibility, and others, as assigned.
- Develops standards for a consistent check-in process across admission points and ensures the procedure is patient-centered; may solicit patient feedback at regular intervals to this end.
- Ensures appropriate staffing, time and attendance.
- Reviews patient access policies on a regular basis and makes updates as needed-focusing on continuous process improvement.
- Oversees the education program for patient access staff across all areas of responsibility, including new hire orientation, competency assessments, remedial education, and ongoing education.
- Sets, monitors, and responds to financial, service, and quality standards for staff in all areas of responsibility.
- Performs regular audits to ensure registration quality.
- Provides feedback to staff, both within and outside of formal review processes.
- Ensures appropriate levels of understanding, awareness, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and agency laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standard.
- Works with other supervisors, managers, and department leaders to search out and implement efficiencies, economies, and best practices.
- Maintains a close working relationship with medical and other staff.
- Monitors department budget and projects monthly/annual expenditures.
- Acts in accordance with the organization’s mission and values while serving as a role model by complying with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices as well as all relevant local, state, and federal laws.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum 5 years work experience in healthcare revenue cycle required.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership and/or management experience.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interpret, communicate, and educate others.
- Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.
