Your role as part of our Grounds Crew :
You will primarily be responsible for all upkeep of the San Diego Padres playing field, making sure all features are in compliance with Major League Baseball standards in order to uphold Petco Park to its standard as a world-class venue.
All the responsibilities we will trust you with :
- Exemplifying our Petco Park Promise : CARE, CONNECT, EXCEED by consistently striving to exceed all guests’ expectations
- Learning and demonstrating all facets of maintaining a professional playing surface throughout the duration of a season
- Performing the proper techniques of maintaining the pitcher’s mound, bullpen mounds, and the home plate area to ensure they meet Major League Baseball expectations
- Daily upkeep of warning track surface, set up and removal of batting practice equipment, pregame preparation of the infield, plate, mound, and warning track areas
- Post-game field responsibilities include, but are not limited to, clearing clay from grass areas, prepping clay areas for next day patching, and cleaning grass and dirt areas of sunflower seeds, gum, and other debris
- Overseeing non baseball events on the field on behalf of Field Operations, such as corporate dinners, concerts, graduations, etc.
- Continuously improving understanding to gain expert knowledge of field upkeep, ballpark, baseball, and the Padres

- Having the ability to quickly learn and effectively execute proper techniques of maintaining a professional playing surface
- Possessing a high degree of respect for privacy, and adhering to all Padres policies, regarding autographs, photos, and fraternizing with players / coaches / VIPs.
- Possessing a high degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism, and accountability
- Having the ability to communicate effectively and work well with others in a collaborative, respectful manner
- Having the ability to multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines
You will be required to meet the following :
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
- Minimum physical requirements : able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark for prolonged periods of time, up to the complete duration of shifts, during games and events, and in all inclement weather, including rain and / or direct sunlight;
due to the physical nature of the job, all candidates must be able to lift, carry and transport up to 75 pounds
- Must be available to work 4-6 days per week, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed (this includes the baseball season and off-season)
- As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check
Salary and Additional Compensation :
Per the California pay transparency law, the pay rate for this position is $19.43 per hour.
Part- time non-union employees are subject to the San Diego Living Wage Ordinance and rates will increase accordingly.
