1. Pharmacy Board Certification
2. Advance Cardiac Life Support/Basic Life Support (ACLS/BLS) Certification
The candidate(s):
- Must possess technical knowledge of drug and medication brand names, generic names/chemical names, general and special storage requirements, expiration date requirements, manufacturer/distributor sources, dosage forms, applicable systems of weights and measures and medical terminology to interpret providers’ orders and verify correct drug, dosage form, strength and dose is prepared and/or distributed; working knowledge of drug use and dosage forms available to be able to screen drug orders for propriety and assist the pharmacist in solving potential drug related problems.
- Train on and use hospital computer system(s), specifically the applicable Veterans Integrated System Technology Architecture (VistA) and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and processing options (e.g., unit dose, outpatient prescription processing including ScriptPro dispensing machine, IV admixtures, etc.) and the operation of automated dispensing equipment including Omnicell.
Duties:
The technician(s) will:
- Under the supervision of a pharmacist, pharmacy technicians perform routine pharmacy functions including receiving prescriptions from patients in writing or electronically from physician
- Processing and filling inpatient and outpatient prescriptions for scheduled and non-scheduled federal legend drugs and medical devices, over-the-counter products and supply items
- Operation, maintenance, re-stocking and troubleshooting of automated dispensing equipment
- Pharmacy technicians prepare prescriptions by counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, and mixing the medication if necessary. Pharmacy technicians maintain patient profiles, stock, and take inventory of medications.
- Pharmacy technicians prepare medications for inpatients in various settings, including sterile product preparation and chemotherapy.
