Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)

Requirements

• Must be board certified in Health Physics and Diagnostic Medical Physics.
• Must have laser safety certification.

Duties

• Providing oversight for all ionizing radiation sources and shipment of radioactive materials.
• Developing agenda for quarterly meetings of the Radiation Safety Committee, appropriate research committee and Laser Safety Committee.
• Attending Laser Safety Committee meetings and maintaining the minutes of those meeting.
• Attending Senior-level briefings as required.
• Providing radiation safety training as specified by Directive.
• Overseeing the Radiation Dosimetry and ALARA programs.
• Conducting annual inspections of the radiation safety program.
• Conducting audits and surveys throughout facility to ensure compliance with current license and JACHO requirements.
• Providing responses to any pertinent NHPP/VA directives, regulatory actions and JCAHO requirements.
