POSITION SUMMARY:
The Youth Program Group Assistant, under the direction of the Youth Program Group Leader, is responsible for assisting with a wide range of activities related to children's recreation programs, including planning, organizing, and instructing games and activities, including athletics, arts and crafts, music, cultural arts and activities, field trips and games.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, customers and outside vendors/service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position medium with lifting of 50 pounds maximum and with frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant standing, walking, climbing, reaching, manual handling, and use of hearing, near/midrange/far vision, frequent carrying/lifting/pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, and use of smell, depth perception, color/field of vision, typing and bending. Working conditions include frequent exposure to noise and occasional exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, vibration and air quality. Potential hazards include frequent client contact and occasional exposure to chemicals, insecticides/pesticides, infectious exposure, computer and equipment use.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years youth related work experience required.
Certification/License: Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of customer service practices required. Knowledge of broad range of recreational activities required. Knowledge of childhood safe keeping procedures required. Knowledge of effective disciplinary methods preferred. Knowledge of First Aid and CPR procedures preferred. Excellent listening and communication skills required. Physical and emotional endurance necessary to work with youth required. Excellent negotiating, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills required. Multi-tasking and prioritizing skills preferred. Must have excellent public relation/customer service skills and be able to exhibit friendly and positive attitude and establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors and guests. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to analyze situations carefully and adopt effective courses of action. Must be able to provide age-appropriate assistance to children in an appropriate and caring manner. Must be able to respond to difficult and stressful situations in an efficient, effective and positive manner. Must be able to promote good public relations in a cooperative, productive working environment. Native American preferred.
