The School District of Onalaska is accepting applications for a second shift custodian at Onalaska High School. Shift is 8 hours per day, 2:15 p.m. - 10:45 p.m. (1/2 hour unpaid lunch), Summer is daytime hours.
JOB GOAL:
1. To maintain a clean, safe and healthful school environment that maximizes educational opportunities for all students, facilitates the performance of duties by teachers and other staff, and serves the needs of the community members using the facility.
2. To communicate in a professional manner and maintain positive professional relationships with fellow employees and others.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accept direction from head custodian or administration on daily building needs to ensure safe and efficient use of buildings.
Interact appropriately with students. Clean floors: sweep, mop, vacuum, remove spots, scrub, strip, finish and polish.
Clean and service bathrooms: clean and disinfect all fixtures, floors and walls; replace paper products and soap. Empty wastebaskets, collect and dispose of trash.
Clean/dust desks, windows, woodwork, furniture and other school fixtures and equipment.
Keep exterior entryways clear of ice and snow.
Act as a positive representative of the school district when dealing with members of the public who are using the school facilities.
Perform light bulb replacement and small repairs as needed.
Work as a team member with other building and grounds department personnel to share information and maximize efforts.
Alert the head custodian, or in his absence, the director of buildings and grounds of any situation requiring maintenance attention.
Assume responsibility for the security of district property by being aware of building activity, asking questions, and reporting any security issues to the proper authorities.
Perform other duties assigned by the director of building and grounds or building principal.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to show a personal interest in maintaining a high degree of cleanliness in buildings and grounds.
- Ability to do general cleaning, operate cleaning and floor care equipment and do simple repairs.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive work relations with all school personnel.
- Ability to communicate the needs of the school with others and respond to those needs.
- Ability and desire to become part of the total school team.
