What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Technician position at Science?
We are seeking a strongly motivated Research Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in our preclinical gene therapy work by supporting research scientists in a range of activities including clinical and ophthalmic examinations, intravitreal injections, ophthalmic procedures such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging, funduscopy, electroretinograms (ERG) recordings, blood collection and handling, necropsy and test article handling. The Research Technician will work closely with our team of research scientists and veterinary staff to perform procedures according to standard operating procedures in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) to support our goal of performing first-in-human clinical studies.
Role & responsibilities:
- Perform ophthalmic examinations (slit lamp, intraocular pressure, central corneal thickness)
- Perform electrophysiological recordings (ERG)
- Perform ophthalmic imaging (OCT, funduscopy)
- Assist in necropsies
- Prepare samples for molecular biology (blood serum handling and analysis)
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures and protocols
- Perform procedures at GLP standard
Key qualifications:
- Experience with large animal research models
- Experience with ophthalmic research procedures
- Proficient in sterile technique
- Good organizational skills and the ability to keep accurate records
- Excellent communications and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Preferred qualifications:
- GLP experience
- Experience with DNA/RNA extraction
- Experience with plate reader assays
- Experiencing performing histology
- Experience with microscopy
Salary/Pay Range:
For individuals hired to work in California, Science is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on geo-located salary bands. The base salary range for this full-time position is $31 - $49 per hour equity benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
