Summary:
The position requires exceptional knowledge of polysomnography equipment, procedures and patient relations. Ability to recognize and score sleep stages, respiratory and other significant events according to recognized procedures. Ability to provide age specific care for all patients.
Review and analyze patient information (history, physical, information and medications).
Review and analyze physicians order, procedure requested, and study protocols assuring any unique patient needs are met.
Complete and verify documentation as required.
Explain procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center environment.
Follow all procedural protocols ensuring appropriate collection of data with technical accuracy.
Assesses proper function and accuracy of all patients related equipment.
Educates the patient relative to the procedure and potential interventions.
Measure and apply appropriate electrodes accurately to assure quality record.
Follow appropriate calibration procedures to ensure accurate data collection.
Performs polysomnography data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to assure signals are artifact-free and making adjustment as required.
Documentation of routine observations, sleep staging, clinical events, procedural changes, and other significant events to aid in scoring and physician interpretation.
Implement appropriate interventions including those related to patient safety as well as clinical interventions such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure and oxygen administration.
Scoring of all Polysomnography in a timely manner, assuring accuracy and according to quality assurance or published standards and lab policy.
Assist in scoring of sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
Assist in scoring clinical events such as respiratory, cardiac, limb movements, arousals, etc. according to professional accepted and center standardized protocols.
Assist in providing the generation of accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical events.
Assist in the distribution of patient polysomnography report and/or the interpreting physician and referring physicians.
Understands indications, contradictions, and adverse effects of CPAP, Bipap, and oxygen administration.
Determine and initiate appropriate treatment modalities/interventions based on lab protocol.
Provides patient education regarding procedures and equipment assisting in assuring positive clinical compliance.
Properly disinfects and sterilizes equipment, electrodes, and transducers as required and according to procedure.
Appropriately handles hazardous materials.
Always obtains and interprets information and makes decisions as appropriate to the age of the patient.
Maintains a knowledge of growth and development.
Understands the range of treatment required by patients as appropriate to their ages.
Serves patients of these age groups: Neonate, Pediatric, Adult, Geriatric.
Always follows Infection Control policies and procedures.
Maintains awareness of Safety Policies and always follows Safety Policies and Procedures
Qualifications
Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Associate’s Degree Preferred
Graduate of a Program in Discipline
BLS required within 30 days of hire.
