Under general supervision, the Corrections Officer ensures the safety, security, and orderly operation of the inmates and daily routines in the Scott County Jail.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Monitors activities to ensure the jail is secure and that inmates are not able to escape; corrects inmate behaviors as needed.Supervises inmate actions utilizing direct supervision techniques to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and prevent physical harm to inmates and staff; writes reports detailing daily activities and any incidents that occur.Maintains a post log regarding all the events that occur during the shift; documents observations regarding positive and negative inmate behaviors.Responds and diffuses emergency and dangerous situations to include fights, suicide attempts, and assaults; applies force as needed to prevent inmates from harming themselves, other inmates, or staff members.Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.Performs related duties as assigned. Special Assignments: Field Training Officer / F.T.O. Corrections Emergency Response Team / C.E.R.T.Hospital Duty Transport Officer or attendant

License and Certification RequirementsMust possess an Iowa State Corrections Officer certification or obtain certification within one (1) year of hire. Must maintain a First Id, CPR, and AED Certification.Physical Demands and Working Environment: Work is performed in County jail facilities and requires exposure infectious diseases and potential physical harm from violent inmates. May be required to apply physical force and defensive tactics to prevent or de-escalate dangerous altercations.
