Employment Type: Part-time (24 hours with full-time benefits)

Travel Requirements: Moderate, predominately in-state Location: Columbia, SC


Position Summary:


The Communications Manager reports to the Director of SC EPSCoR (Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) and works in close collaboration with the SC EPSCoR Team. This position must maintain regular communication with SC EPSCoR stakeholders which includes faculty and other researchers, students, other SC Programs, and other National Science Foundation (NSF) EPSCoR jurisdictions. SC EPSCoR is a member of the South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) and is in Columbia, SC.

Working in collaboration with the Director the Manager’s role will include media relations, social media, website development and maintenance/security, creation of content for digital and traditional outreach, project planning and operational implementation including virtual and traditional conferences and webinars, as well as upfront research and metric-driven analysis to support continuous improvement of communications strategies in line with SC EPSCoR’s mission and programs.

Requirements

Essential Functions:


Communications (Weighted 60%)

• Supports the Director and SC EPSCoR Team in strategic communications.

• Pursues relevant stories, writes, and edits content for multiple channels.

• Manages (and updates) the SC EPSCoR website.

• Develops a biweekly newsletter and as needed.

• Manages SC EPSCoR’s social media presence, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube.

• Helps in the preparation of SC EPSCoR supported events.

• Develops, formats, distributes, and analyzes surveys and collects data for relevant databases.

• Designs the layout of a range of communication products.

• Manages the development of multimedia assets, including video, animation, photography.

• Demonstrates a balance of creative talent and organizational skills.


Project (Weighted 20%)

• Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, quality, and timeliness of deliverables.

• Produces and tracks project timelines.

• Exhibits a can-do attitude and collaborative workstyle.


Event & Conference Management (Weighted 10%)

• Manages and coordinates technology, registration, and promotional logistics of SC EPSCoR’s conferences, webinars, virtual events, and meetings.


Other (Weighted 10%)

• Acts as web master and manage SC EPSCoR email inbox accounts.

• Plans, designs, orders, and maintains SC EPSCoR branding and promotional material.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications (Required):

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

• Bachelor’s degree.

• Strong graphic design and layout capabilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, paired with creative capabilities.

• Experience with website design and management and experience with WordPress.

• Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud. 

• Experience developing content for newsletters using platforms such as MailChimp or Constant Contact.

• Experience in managing campaigns across multiple platforms.

• Proven organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize.

• Driven by dedication to deliver quality work.

• Capable of simultaneously focusing on big-picture goals and paying attention to details.

• Self-starter willing to take initiative but also follow direction.

• Team player, able to work harmoniously and positively, interacting with a range of stakeholders.

• Ability to travel within SC.


Preferred:

• Experience writing scientific or technology-based concepts.

• Creative experience in a non-profit, agency, or higher education setting.

Salary : $42,000 - $53,200
