Scripps – Ft Myers-Cape Coral, WFTX is seeking a focused and creative Senior News Editor. The growing team at WFTX Fox 4 is on a mission: we’re committed to delivering authentic journalism that is trustworthy and changes lives for the better across Southwest Florida…all while finding ways to embrace the difficult but rewarding and vitally important responsibility of delivering the news, and the camaraderie and experiences that come with it. This special team is looking for a master visual artist whose video skills can tell the stories of real people in accurate and compelling ways while also creating emotional connections with viewers. In fact, you champion accuracy and sourcing in every VO and can collaborate with teammates to use the best sound and video to create attention-getting newscast cold opens and effective teases. You would be a key partner for a growing team of producers, EPs, and investigative reporters, in creating visual solutions, such as graphics and animations, to make complex or video-poor stories and investigations clear and easy to understand. There’s also a new team of news editors looking to follow your lead. You can show them effective editing techniques that they can add to their skillsets, while also helping maintain journalistic standards for news editing and video feeds in the newsroom. You’ll also use your attention to detail to take ownership of news video systems and storage and proactively manage and protect these assets. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Work with fellow editors, producers, Executive Producers, reporters, photojournalists, and production team to ensure a high-quality product consistent with station’s news brand. Ensure best video quality in all editing stories, with attention to accuracy, detail, and style. Provide advanced editing touches to newscast cold opens, teases, and other newscast pre-production. Maintain video archive filing system and integrate new technology as needed into editing workflows. Assist in coordinating news feeds. Perform other duties as assigned. WHAT YOU’LL NEED: Advanced proficiency in non-linear, editing, including Final Cut Pro. Adobe & After-Effects or equivalent editing platforms a plus. Experience with video editing under tight deadlines and/or in news, sports, or marketing format a plus. WHAT YOU’LL BRING: Knowledge & demonstration of creativity, illustrative video, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics & libel laws. Ability to collaborate well in a team, receive and execute on constructive feedback, and demonstrate advanced editing skills to others. Ability to work independently, while prioritizing and successfully executing assignments at an advanced level in a high-pressure environment.
